Do you bag your own groceries if bagger is not around?

I always feel stupid just standing there while the cashier is ringing AND bagging when there is no bagger around. I see other shoppers helping the cashier. However, I feel I'm paying top dollar for these groceries and bagging is included. Also the few times I've helped the bags were not really packed correctly. So I just prefer not to bag my own groceries.
When I'm at a self-checkout lane then I know I'm expected to bag and I do it. But I only use the self-checkout when I have just a few items.
How do you feel about this?

We don't have baggers were I live. You are expected to bag your own stuff. The woman might help you if you have a ton of stuff. I say might because it depends on if she likes you or not. She doesn't have to help but most are nice and do it.
When I lived in SF and went shopping with a cart and not by car, I always wanted to bag my own stuff. I knew if I did it, I could fit what I had in the cart. If they did it, it wouldn't fit. It had to be in 4 paper bags to fit the cart. 4 not 5. I surprised a lot of the employees that it was possible. They'd say, It won't all fit in the cart. I'd say watch me. It will. It's just a math puzzle to fit it in.

I am a cashier and so when I am out shopping I let the cashier / bagger do it for me, unless it's a coworker and then I will sometimes help.
I just feel like they know it's their job, and if they were to come through my line when they got off, I'd back for them.

Yes, I do. I can't stand standing there while this poor girl is doing her best to keep the line going as fast as she can. And I can't stand it when a husband and wife is there, and they both just stand there waiting. One of them can certainly help out. Yes, you do pay good money, I understand that, but the company's don't give a darn about the employees and what they put them through. I help out as much as I can as I'm not doing anything else at the moment, doesn't bother me in the least. I don't pack good either as I don't know what the heck I'm doing, so I double the bags and they're fine. Just my opinion.
