Apple's new gadget, will it make wave? |

| Apple has a new high tech offering. Is it another ipod in the making in terms of popularity Apple Sees New Money in Old Media by Yukari Iwatani Kane and Ethan Smith Friday, January 22, 2010 With the new tablet device that is debuting next week, Apple Inc. Chief Executive Steve Jobs is betting he can reshape businesses like textbooks, newspapers and television much the way his iPod revamped the music industry—and expand Apple's influence and revenue as a content middleman. n developing the device, Apple focused on the role the gadget could play in homes and in classrooms, say people familiar with the situation. The company envisions that the tablet can be shared by multiple family members to read news and check email in homes, these people say. For classrooms, Apple has been exploring electronic-textbook technology. Apple also has been looking at how content from newspapers and magazines can be presented differently on the tablet, according to the people familiar with the situation. Other people briefed on the device say the tablet will come with a virtual keyboard. Apple has recently been in discussions with book, magazine and newspaper publishers about how they can work together. The company has talked with New York Times Co., Condé Nast Publications Inc. and HarperCollins Publishers and its owner News Corp., which also owns The Wall Street Journal, over content for the tablet, say people familiar with the talks. | | It sounds really good but to be honest I doubt schools would be able to afford them, they would be way too expensive and pupils would just make about on them. As for using them at home to check our emails and read publications, what's the point of having a laptop or a pc if your just going to check everything on your tablet? And I think a lot more people would rather have the book or magazine in hand rather than reading it from a tablet, and theirs already similar things like the Sony eReader out. It sounds really cool but I don't think it's going to be as huge as the iPods. | | | | | | |

| | Once again Apple is way behind as always. This sounds like a rip-off of the already existing tablet pcs that exist today. While not as popular, they came out way before apple came up with this. This is why I don't much care for apple-based products. They are so beyound in the times and trying to compete. Why not make something new for once instead of waiting a few years and trying to coppy off of microsoft? | | | | | | |

| | Sounds quite interesting. However, let us wait and watch before anything substantial happens. | | | | | | |
