Our indoor Cats are afraid of the SNOW and ICE coming down!!

We had a winter storm hit us here in North Carolina and it started with Snow and freezing rain mixed in. Our poor 2 girl cats were freaked out with the pinging of the freezing rain hitting the windows. They wouldn't go near any of the windows just in case whatever was out there was trying to get them! And today, when we got up, it was to a white world of wintery beauty! Our cats are both under 4 years old and have never seen this much snow and ice! We only have had dustings to date that they have seen. That never bothered them much since they could still see grass etc. They are convinced that something evil is afoot. They finally both got brave enough to go to the sliding glass door in our living room together for moral support they peeked and stood in shocked silence. Not a whisker moved and their bodies were rigid and I could see their utter horror and disbelief! What had happened...? If cat jaws could drop, they did! Their eyes bugged out and our youngest ran away from the horrible sight of whiteness everywhere. They were not at all happy about the changes to their moving picture world otherwise known as windows! The birds have been very quiet today and haven't been using the feeder much at all. Think they are staying in their nests where it's warm. That again was unacceptable to my 2 fur babies! After the one good peek, both have avoided that door when usually it's a favorite spot for sunning and picture world watching. They are indoor cats to the core and don't even try to get out so their reaction is amazing to see. It's also been super quiet since very few folks in our neighborhood are venturing out onto the icy roads! North Carolina as I understand it might declare a state of emergency! We got almost 2 inches and then the freezing rain on top..whereas other areas got almost 8 inches... The snow plows haven't even been in our area yet, hopefully tomorrow they will come thru but that might bring another frightening experience as my cats hate the garbage truck and it's noisiness! How do your cats deal with Ice and Snow..? Are they indoor or outdoor cats? The cats are hoping that their world is back to normal tommorow but that's not gonnna happen til we get a warm up in a few days! How do your cats react to the snow and freezing rain...ours need our protection and comfort!!

it doeas not ghet thet much cold here in in winter but indoor cats are definately afraid of these things, the main reason being they are indoors and like other outdoor cats they dont have the capability of adapting to the conditions outside as they are born and brought up inside the house,so whenever they see these things they get afraidalso they are afraid of water, all cats are actually

not all cats, my mom used to have a cat that would get in the tub and chase bubbles - there are Youtubes of cats in tubs, some cats don't like water, but some cats don't care.

I had one cat that loved water! But I think that was due to my having to wash his furry little butt multiple times a day for the first week or so that I had him! He came from a shelter and poor little one had bad diarreah from worms. The vet game me meds for him but it took several days to cure him. Everytime I heard the litter box, I had to make a run for him or he'd be smearing his butt to get the yuck off. He decided after that the water was a good thing as on his own several months later he jumped into the tub after most of the water had drained out and splashed around and had some fun! It became something of a regular routine and I could wash him if he needed it with no worries. I think he was more of a dog in a kitty body since he also followed me around like a dog, not one of the independant cat types at all! Be well!!

Abhiabhiabhiabhi, Wow that's a long name! Yes, I agree they haven't ever seen snow or ice so it's a new experience and I think that's in part why they are scared. They have always been indoor cats and they like their routines! Thanks for sharing!

I don't have cats but I do have some ver unhappy little chihuahuas right now because of the snow and ice. The snow touches their tummy when they go outside..lol. I have put them in their little hoodies but they are still freaking out. They have to be comforted too.

The poor little ones know that snow is oh so wrong! We moved here to the south to get away from the cold and snow so when we do get a storm, it's kinda special for us. But my cats are still not happy about it tho being the 2nd day, they are abit more curious. Good thing they have their little hoodies to help keep them warm and cozy. Tho that doesn't help their little paws! I'll bet they shake them off as they go..Hopefully it will melt soon and they can strut their cute little selves around like usual! Be Well!

we haven't had any in so long that none of the cats we have currently have seen any - well, maybe Sassy, but that was before we got her.

It gets windy here and we get a lot of rain that slams against the windows. So to the cats bad weather is normal. I mean we do get hurricanes here. However, my neck of the woods at the start of the month had an unexpected suprise. It actually got cold enough to snow. Not an entire lot mind you, but enough to sprinkle everthing with a fine white power. Though to be honest I don't think our cats cared much. They stayed in their confort zones trying to stay warm. Though admittedly that heater of ours got a work out. Cats, loved it... me... cringing at the bill.

Yeah,, I don't even want to think about the electric bill coming due this month since it's been way colder than normal! We've used the fireplace abunch and the cats do love that the best! We get high winds at times with our rain but the pinging was different and the cats didn't like it one bit. Thunderstorms are not their favorite either but they have learned to deal with them by cuddling together. They really do support each other like best friends, it's so sweet to see! Thanks for sharing and stay warm! Be well!
