498a law in India - Do think it is giving better result.

The wife/daughter-in-law who's demands are not met can make a written complaint of dowry harassment or any other harassment to a nearby police station. The husband, his old parents and relatives are immediately arrested without sufficient investigation and put behind bars on a non-bailable terms. Even if the complaint is false.
I hope this is something really cruelty done to husbands family. A criminal law for safeguarding women but at times mostly women of husbands family is suffering .
But it is known that 90% of people misuses this law and I hope this law is another shame to Indian Judiciary.

Here in India it is a mix of contitution and laws that are from England, Ireland and other western coutnries. May India has its own culture as it is very different from other countries in world. Law itself is without justice. No wonder why terrorism is in India.

Hi Shamrack,
Actually the Law is for protecting the girls from the harassment by in Laws. But it is really sad to know that people are taking advantage on it. Yes the Law is considering the words of girls and protecting them blind fully. In my opinion innocents won’t get punishment. I hope the Law will order further enquiries and will find out the truth at the earliest.

If you visit this site http:498a.org much information on this law could be known. Moreover it is known that the women in husbands family like mother, sisters, cousins are also vicitims of this law. Before there a chance for proving innocence they put to jail.

Hi,I don't believe that 90% of people misuses this law, as far as i know indians,any typical indian women think twice to take any step against their husband or in-law.It's not easy for them also to face typical man oriented society(sorry but still india is not completely women oriented).
They complain because they don't have any other option, it is the fact that still women's are tortured by in-law or husband for dowry or any other reason.I think this law(498a) is good for atleast those women who dare to oppose wrong things done to them.

Really?so awful! Do the huaband have a equivalent rights?That's unfair to the husbands. The wife should use this law carefully and shouldn't make their family broken.
