Death Note Kira: Savior or Psycho? |
| |
| I love the series Death Note! Does anyone here watch this? If you do, you know that everyone who watches is posed with a basic question, "Is Light Yagami a Savior to the world, or a Psycho who must be stopped?" Light sure believes that he is doing the right thing by ridding the world of evil. Without a single ounce of effort he is getting rid of the scum of the world with only his pen; creating a glorious era of peace where he is God. But L and the police have a good point too. Who made you God? Light didn't stick to just criminals in his notebook, but also people who were trying to find him and stop his plans. Why should the world have to conform to one man's belief of what is right and wrong, namely Light's? So, for those of you who know what I'm talking about here, what side do you fall on? Would you like a world where wrong-doers are punished immediately by death from some savior, or do you think that this is too much power for one person to wield? Please tell me I'm not the only nerd that loves Death Note lol! | | Death Note Kira | | | | |

| | hi! no, you're not the only one who loves death note. i have watched the whole series last year on dvd and i like it very much too! at first, i thought what Light was just doing okay, until he started to kill people that gets in his way. i love how their minds work and how they try to read each others mind and predict the next move. it's sooo cool! the power is too much for just one person. it could consume him/her. we are all just human beings, no one is superior enough to end the life of one just because of a wroing doing. unless of course it's a grave sin. but we have justice systems for that. i guess, the justice system should just work faster. :) | | | | | | |

| | I was so into this series when I discovered it, I actually cried at the series finale! Even though Light was very smart and calculating, I tend to think that no person should wield the Death Note, because no one man can truly judge good and evil. But luckily this is only a cartoon series! | | | |

| | Hi drknlvly!^^ I love this series too! I have watched it before and so as the OVA and the live action movies. If you haven't watched it, you should watch them too. I'm sure you'll like it.^^ Well, it's true that Kira is somewhat of a psycho and the power to kill people and be like a God has gone over his head. But I think that if he only didn't abuse that power, the notebook wouldn't have gone to waste. He just didn't have the right influence in his surroundings.^^;; He believed too much on himself. But still, I like his character and I would have agreed on him on ridding the world of notorious criminals, only if I have proven myself that the criminal is indeed black to the bones.^^ As for L, he is such a charming character too, with all his candies and chocolates and all that sweets.^^ I think he also got too much absorbed in catching Kira because he risked his life just to be able to do it. Well, maybe that's what police really do, risk their life, but I don't know. Maybe I just didn't want L to catch Kira.^^;; Anyway, this was really a good series. I loved the live action movie too. I'm actually wishing there'd be another movie.^^ | | | | | | |

| | Yeah, L had me tripped out that one episode where he put like 35 cubes of sugar in one cup of tea lol! I only know it was near that many because I was getting them on DVD and watching them with Mama. But I was too impatient to wait for her so I'd watch them when they came in the mail, and again when she came over lol! Anyway, can we really say that Light was a Psycho? I tend to believe that the Death Note is just too powerful for man altogether. Yes, Light went wrong when he started killing people in his way, but who is to say what mistakes we would make with the Death Note? Humans are flawed, and I don't believe there is one among us who would be able to wield the Death Note and not use it for personal gain or vengeance, or even mistakenly kill someone who should have been given a chance to reprieve? I believe that Light had good intentions; he was just human. | | | |

| | Yes, you said it perfectly. Light is just a human and to err is human.^^ Light was definitely tempted with the power of the notebook that's why everything that's happened, happened.^^ | | | |

| | well he is making the right decision on 'what to do with the book' but he never really thought what he did is heartless. people deserves 2nd chances. right goal but wrong methods. as the story goes on, he did kill innocent people and policemen. so i will say Kira is a psycho more than a savior | | | | | | |

| | Hi drkn I think his intentions were "noble", but one wrong isnt solved with another wrong(what i mean killing the "sinners isnt the answer). I loooooved Death Note and is along with Code Geass my favorite show ever. I believe Kira lost his way along the road, cause at the end he would kill anyone if they interfere with his plan, even if it was an innocent person(he even sacrificed his own father). So i agree with the great L, judging people isnt Lighto´s right. | | | | | | |

| | I actually wouldn't like to controlled. I'd hate to control every action , to make sure I don't have enemies so that they don't report me to Light... Light's "perfect world" would have been a world of fear and essentially false peace. After all , it's not the result of people's good nature but rather a fear of punishment >.> | | | | | | |

| | My opinion of Light Yagami is that he was always a psycho, and the Death Note just made it more apparent, after all, his first goal was NOT to rid the world of evil for the sake of true peace, it was so he could become god. Saviors do not wish to become god, they want to keep people safe. My opinion of the world of Death Note is that while people were afraid of Kira, I'm sure they came up with ways not to get caught, and Light relied on the justice system too much and didn't take into account false convictions and other things, innocent people do go to jail and Light just ignored that and killed criminals willy-nilly. He got what he deserved in the end, and the manga ending is much better than the animes, by the way. | | | | | | |

| | I have never read the manga, but it goes without saying that print is normally better than film. But in either case he never thought of all the smaller crimes that would go unpunished. Yes, he had the death note, but it didn't give him all seeing power. Not even the Shinigami eyes did that, only a name for the person he happened to be looking at. So I can agree that back of all of Light's motives was greed. And it was that that eventually tore him apart and brought him down. | | | |
