| | wow, really almost suspended? Jeez, everyone must look down on that principal. I agree that the principal over-reacted but I also think that the mother went a little over board. Tell me if I'm wrong, but is suing really necessary? I mean people can sue anyone for anything. I still think the principal should apologize, but I don't think that he has to get sued for it. He probably learned his lesson and won't forget, because he's probably lose his job and everywhere people see him, they're going to glare him down. | | | | | | |

| | that was an exaggerated reaction from the principal and it is not should be the cases where their is an extreme sanction put on the boy side kinda quite humiliating since it is a lego it should be forgiven giving a light penalty not so harsh it could create a trauma on the eboy young mind. it is suppose to be a play and not to make the issues so great unless their is a damage done which is very absence, i think the parents should file a case against the principal for her over reaction. | | | | | | |

| | I get so tired of reading these stupid stories. I am from the UK and thought that it was only here that people were going so OTT about this type of things. Why on earth can't children be allowed to be children. My kids played with toy guns and didn't turn out to be murderes or terrorists. | | | | | | |

| | Wow. When I was in highschool, I remember my principal selling his older hunting rifle to a student after he got his new one...gave the kid a pretty good deal on it and it was a really good gun. They did the transaction right in the high shcool parking lot. No one batted an eye. Nor did they at the countless students, boy AND girls who would keep their hunting rifles right there in their trucks in the school parking lots beacuse they had either been out in the woods hunting that morning or were going out after school. No big deal. Fastforward to 2010 and picture either of those things happening to day. The area would be in total police state lock down and all involved parties would be dragged out in shackles like common criminals. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Bart, First of all, I want to say that there is a real gun that is that small. A customer where I work collects guns and brought it into the store to show me one night. That being said, I do think the principal way over-reacted. The boy was 9 and a good student. The boys were playing with toys so at a glance it should have been obvious that the gun was a toy. If there were still any doubt in the principal's mind as to whether it was real or not then she should have gone over and had a closer look. I find it hard to believe that a Lego gun could possibly look real. There was no need to treat this boy the way they did. | | | | | | |

| | I can understand the mom's reaction, because it is a toy, a two inch size toy gun. Yet maybe the principal or school was trying to make a point of not allowing any guns, toy or not, onto the property? Yet if I was the mom of this adorable child, I would also be inclined to demand an apology of sorts for nearly suspending the boy, because the toy gun was two inches in size! It sounds like the school and the principle over-reacted a tad. I would have simply called the mom to ask that the child not bring any toys to school anymore resembling a gun. I worry about this issue, too, for I have an eleven year old nephew that likes to make paper guns off of how-to videos from the Internet or youtube. Yet the paper guns are all white. If my nephew brought one of these paper guns to school, I might be a little alarmed being the principle or his teacher, for not knowing the intentions of doing so. Yet maybe the school was just trying to prevent complancency on the issue when it comes to bringing any kind of weapon to school. I can understand that as well, for parents need to be aware, yes? | | | | | | |
