Did you ever pretend to like a group just to fit in with your peers? If so who?

Some people like a group or singer when they are younger ,simply because everyone else likes them.
When I was a young girl, the trend was to like The Osmonds or David Cassidy. I liked both a little bit because the music was good but I wasn't a screaming wreck or anything If I saw them on the TV.
Later on it was The Bay City Rollers whom all the girls swooned over.
Secretly I liked The Smiths and Simon and Garfunkel but that wasn't something to be admitted out loud in a room full of girls.
What was the trend when you were a teenager or what is it where you live now and who is your secret (really best) musician.

Hi there :)
Well yes, I currently experience that thing actually. A lot of people are so up to Lady Gaga but personally I just don't like her. It's not just her.
I don't know if I'm just a 90's junkie but MOST songs in the mainstream nowadays doesn't make sense. I'm not saying all because I would say that I love some songs of Taylor Swift but most song lyrics and rhythm nowadays doesn't make sense..like those of Lady Gaga.
All my peers are so into her but me, I don't really like her. I haven't tried liking a specific singer just to fit in to the hype these days and probably.. won't do it. Well I don't know.
Well, maybe if a singer can be "likable" I can pretend to love him/her too. Maybe I'd give it a try ;) I'm not closing my preferences to certain singers/ celebrities only.. :)

I used to like the Beatles but it was the mid 1970's .Other girls laughed when I told them, they thought the Beatles were old.
Boys at school however, liked the Beatles just as much as I did.
Sometimes it is a gender thing, sometimes it is an age thing.
After all, people will say oh yes Tom Jones is good but to me, he was quite an old man when I was a teenager and so I cant see it.
LOL we are all different I suppose and should just like what we like and let other people like their own choices too.

I used be one of those people to. When I was younger and going to high school all my friends at school loved Michael Jordon. They talked about him and how much he scored in one game almost everyday. After awhile I began talking about Michael Jordan too and how much skill he has and how he was the best player in the world. Deep down inside I never really loved Michael Jordan. I enjoyed how he played the game, but I always had my secret favorite team. The New York Knicks. And Patrick Ewing was my all time favorite player. I could not tell my friends at the time. The reason because they would all be against me.

I Guess we are all victims of peer pressure at one time or another.
Even at work ,people were very insistent about having a drink at Christmas and being teetotal, I don't ever touch it.
That isn't because I don't want to be friendly or sociable it is just a conviction that I keep.
I really don't mind who has a drink but I don't want one myself.

I don't think this has ever happened to me...I enjoy listening to most types of music anyways, so I don't usually need to pretend to like any one group in particular...I think it's alright as long as you enjoy the same genre...Right now where I live, different cliques like different things, but a LOT of people seem to like Coldplay...

Maybe it is more a young persons thing(not saying you are old LOL).
I notice a lot of the younger girls on facebook talk about the talent contest singers from TV and when I listen to them myself, a lot of the time ,they can't actually hold a tune so I think it is maybe worse now than in the 1970's when I was a teenager.
I always found boys were more likely to tell you who they honestly liked to listen to, I think it might have been because they were not really expected to 'fancy' the singers or die of shame.
