have you eaten any moon cake or sticky rice, etc. for chinese new year?  

When I was working at a sushi place called Fushi Yami, I became interested in the oriental culture. So last year I went online and decided to try some mooncakes from www.shengkee.com. They weren't too expensive, and they tasted great! When my boss Jackie from Taiwan shared one with me, I fell in love with the mooncake! I'd like to try and make my own, but I don't have the bean paste. I still have the pretty box the package of 12 mooncakes came in, too. I have also tried sticky rice working at the sushi place in Dekalb, IL (www.fushiyami.com) and it is delicious! I like how the sticky rice helps keep the sushi roll together, and how it can meld the ingredients into a mouthful of deliciousness! I use to watch the sushi chef everyday make his sticky rice, and it can take a awhile. Yet when he prepared the sushi rolls, he made it look so easy. After responding to this post, I just might have to order some mooncake now! There are also kits at Walmart to make sushi rolls and sticky rice, but I would rather buy in bulk from the store.

Well, so far, we have been having the sticky rice cakes but not moon cakes.

I do not know how you have it at your end where at my end we had it by barbecuing it or coating it with a batter of eggs and flour, then deep fry it till golden brown.

Both are equally nice and delicious. I must admit that every Spring Festival is a time where we really have plenty to overindulge. Better watch that waistline if you do not want to have a "torturous" slimming exercise.

i have eaten sticky rice but not the way Chinese cook it, we have our own local way of cooking sticky rice. i love eating sticky rice with sweet coconut milk. its delicious. i have never tasted Chinese sticky rice

sticky rice is my favotite~~but actually, not all the people in china have it for chinese new year, only the people in south of china. in the north, they have dumpling for the new year. moon cake~ is for mid-autumn day, sometimes it's too sweet for me to have a lot.
back to sticky rice, it can be pan-fried and eaten up with suger. or cut the large one into little dollops, boil with red bean paste and water, suger if you really like sweet, it's the dessert i really like and often had when i studied in japan.
