Easier to listen to someone who's been in your shoes

Have you ever noticed that most people rather listen to someone who has been in their shoes or knows what they are going through? It's easier to ignore or shake off someone who you believe knows nothing of what you are going through. Even if they give the same advice or say the same thing as the person who has been in your shoes, it is easier to dismiss them. It is sad but I know I do the same thing. Someone gives me an advice and I think they have no idea what I'm going through. Then if someone who has been through what I am says the exact same thing, I'll accept their words easier and quicker. It's sad but true. I need to break myself out of that habit.

Hi, vjenkins86. I think that it is easier to listen to someone that went through the exact or similar situation as you have. When this person gives advice or feedback, it is real and true. They went through what you have been. You both can relate to each other then. But a person that not has been through what you have may offer advice, but they may not understand what you are going through. They just tell you what they feel, not what they had to do.. It is fair that you accept someones words easier and quicker, who has went through something vs someone that has not.

..hi.. that usually happens.. because if the person has experienced the same situation as you are in, that person knows exactly how to say things and how to sympathize and empathize with you.. you can feel their sincerity and concern.. but for those people who haven't experience your situation, it is very easy for them to say you do this or you do that.. for me, I can easily comprehend with somebody who is experiencing situations that O've already overcomed.. Its natural.. in my personal view, you need not break that habit.. Its not a habit actually.. its a reality..
