That's one of the reason I have my text messages blocked. Probably someone set up your friend. I'm pretty sure he can claim his money back if he is going to call his mobile company and complain.

The only text messages I receive are from Verizon when I have paid my bill, of if they are upgrading the software in my phone. My daughter and I used to text everyday, but we don't do that anymore as she doesn't have un.imite4d, and I do. We just talk on the phone mainly now, and communicate through facebook as well. I don't mind texting, but it does drain the battery quicker, so it lasts longer if I don't do it. I think if I ever got a text message from soneone I didn't know, I would just delete it. That is what we all need to do, as you knever know what it is, and who is behind it. Take care, and happy mylotting.

Just like telemarkerters have machines that randomly dial numbers, there are companies that can do this with text messages. Now, the charge comes the second you recieve the message NOT when you open it. You could delete it like e-mail without reading it, but your bill will be charged. Certain companies are targeted At&T being the highest out there.

There are things you can do to safeguard your phone. You can block u unwanted texts. Quite often providers also give you the option to opt-out of promotional offers sent to you by text. This reduces the third-party advertizment texts.

Also, unlimited text messaging won't save you if you are a victum of "promotional texting" charges will appear on your bill regardless of weather or not you have a text messaging plan. thats why you need to opt-out of Promotional offers. Your provider can futher assist you. This way with something like this in place you will be protected if charges appear on your bill.

Your friend learned the hard way. Hope he knows to opt out of promotional texts.

And, remember... if you get a text from a number you do not know Usually 3 to five digits long, you've been charged if you are going to be. NOT when you open the text.

I think either he has subscribed any service or unintentionally he accepted this.
but some time cell phone companies deduct the amount and tell you that you have subscribed for that. and in this way they deduct your money deliberately. and this is very bad as you know even that you have been cheated. i think here is a need to complaint against them. no matter what efforts you will have to made for that.
