the civilian image of us military veterans | | | | as a former member of the U.S armed forces, who served overseas i have to speak up for us veterans. i know that i am not the only one who feels this way, but perhaps reluctant to say. i have never been too reluctant to call bull. i resent the image that civilians portray us with just for their own entertainment. civilians watch way to many war movies and cater to the media hype just to get you interested in the war. civilians have NO IDEA what the military is like. they only want to sit back in their comfort zone and watch hype like they are viewing a movie for entertainment. when civilians try to ask me about the war, i tell them to stop watching CNN and go join. but no....the won't cowards they just want to hear horror stories. then they go label you as a crazy post war nut who can go off at any minute. i have heard that we veterans are crazy from so many people that it is really making me upset. the only thing that was hard to make civilian life hard to adjust to was civilians. when i tell them that there were no horror stories to tell them, that i did not have a bad time over there (just long work hours in the hospital)... the look disappointed. like they wanted to see me with no legs or hear that i seen someone's head get blown off. that is so sick and twisted. i did get hurt over there, but nothing war related. in fact, it was a recreational reason. this one guy who saw me and my injury said, "oh man, did you get shot???? dummy no. i am a girl, congress has not enacted females to go in the hot spots. no, i don't react to hearing a car back fire. no, i don't dream about bombs going off. NO!!! i am not crazy. this is getting ridiculous. i just had to vent that out. you know what. once, i even invented a horrible war story for this dumb but who just really wanted to believe it. after that, he became my groupie. that p-ed me off sooo bad. i dogged him out and said that the war changed me. lol. if anything i would be embarrassed to be a man in the company of a woman more stronger than him. if it weren't for the fact that i have i son, i would say bring back the draft. then we will see who is all hyped up on the war and how they feel about things after they have to go in and serve. holla back fellow vets. how do you feel about this. by the way, it's not all civilians (by the way, i am civilian now too). i have met some very smart ones, but i have also met some idiots that i wished could be drafted so they can get a taste of some of what intrigues them so much. | | | | | | | | | | Work at Home Jobs Work at Home Jobs make up to $8000/Month. | | first off ma'am, thank you exponentialy for your service. In the words of one imortal general, "war is hell" and nothing short of it. It isn't glamorous, it is violent, noisy, things get broken and people die, lots of them sometimes. I for one am gratefull every time I hear a soldier with nothing "exiting" to report. It means they and their comrads made it out in one piece and alive, this is something to be celebrated. I also do not view former soldiers as potential time bombs or threats to society. I would trust a soldier with my life and freedoms before I would ever trust a government or activist with them. Again, thanks for your service. | | | | | | | MoonGypsy (567)
