Anyone notice the similarities between Avatar and Atlantis?

While I was watching Avatar I noticed that it reminded me a lot of the animated Disney movie Avatar: The lost city. Even the girl was similar. They both featured daughters of the King of their civilizations, and they were both amazing characters. They both wore facepaint and were skilled fighters. Both of them had a man who ended up falling in love with them, although in Atlantis he was a scholar and in Avatar he was a marine but still with the research team. In both stories their civilizations both depended on an unknown higher source and deity. In Atlantis it was the light, and in Avatar it was Aywa the tree. And in both stories the humans wanted to take advantage of them and actually steal that power source. The fight in both led to the near destruction and death of the whole civilization. And eventually the native people fought back, along with a few of the non-greedy outsiders and won. In Avatar the machines of flight were dragon things. And instead of having a crystal around their necks, in Avatar they had a special connector in their hair to connect to their power source. Even the helicoptor pilot from Avatar was very similiar to the tough female character in Atlantis that ended up fighting for Atlantis' side.

I recognize that story-line similarity very well. Avatar is also a lot like Fern Gully and Princess Mononoke (and I'm sure a ton of other movies)- that's why so many people are disliking the hype and saying the movie isn't "original" (but personally I don't think anything is original anymore in our media-craze world).

Well the idea of people stealing other people's land is old as time, just like with Pocahontas, and in real life. But I personally loved the movie, I thought it was pretty original because it was a unique world. Plus the graphics and sound was incredible. But tats just my opinion. I've never heard of those 2 movies b4. its true, a LOT of movies and songs are very similiar. It's pbbly becuz all of these have to be inspired by something, and inspiration draws from a variety of sources.

I do agree that the graphics and creativity of the setting were very amazing- I can't imagine how anyone could come up with an entire alien "world" and come up with the technology to put in in a movie! w

I never seen Atlantis so I cannot comment. Personally I loved Avatar, though some critics claimed it is not original, well maybe they are referring to the story, but I loved the technology and innovation used. The special effects are spectacular, most of those are not yet seen in any film. Plus the fact that the theme is about taking care of the mother earth, I always loved this theme because this is timely, considering that climate changes and global warming are the most popular concern world leaders are now debating.

YES. One of the things that I LOVED about it was the theme I walked away with. :D It was a very green movie, and I like that they fit that in there. and yes, i havent seen as clear a movie before, especially considering its ALL computer animated! :O it looks SO realistic! I liked how it was 3D and it was good quality 3D too.

wow, i never watched avatar and surely won't anymore if it's so similar like that shame on james cameron, maybe that's why he wasn't making movies anymore and lost some new ideas, and i don't even know if can as terminator 2 had as original story already and aliens 2 as well
