Co you think they will ever omit a cigg lighter in cars?

probably not because it is also a power source.

I think they actually have eliminated the lighter itself in many, if not most, cars. But, they leave the plug because so many devices use it as an outlet for accessories people use in their cars. I've been in newer cars where there is no lighter - just the outlet.

all ready is I have a place for one in my 2003 SUV and use it only for charging my cell phone when on the road.

I bought a new Chevrolet car in 2006...no lighter and no ashtray then I bought another new 2009 Chevrolet and it has an ashtray but still no lighter.

Well, it's also an electrical outlet, so I don't think they'll stop adding it. Maybe change the design somehow.

Hi Raydene, It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the cig' lighter is banned in cars..after all as you say it is everywhere else apart from our homes, my son does smoke but when he akes me to my mum's or shoping etc there is no smoking in his car whatsoever as he doesn't like it..but banning smoking in cars I can see becoming a legal thing unless specially ordered-LoLo xoxo

I think you have a good point there. I would not mind seeing that happen except for the fact that that little receptacle is so useful for other things like keeping your cell phone charged up, and all of the other things that you might have. My two cents on this subject.
