I still hav issues when a teacher or peer suggests to make a note in the book. I always buy my books, but I'm still not used to writing in it! IT feels wrong lol..like abuse or vandalising.. I don't understand how people don't like to read, but i prefer to read for my down time- traditional book, not online :)

I know what you mean. I had an experience when an acquaintance of mine borrowed a book and he returned it with notes on it, he could have at least scribbled it using a pencil but no, he used a pen! Now, whenever I buy a book I don't remove the tag price and when I cover it with plastic cover the tag price would still be visible just to let them know the price I have to pay in getting the book that way they will have the decency to take care of it.

He didn't even ask if he could write in it first?! I only loan books to friends if I know they won't throw it around. I hope he apologised. Another thing that annoys me is when people read a book by folding it back on its binding, you kno?

Hi frozenfire, well, I hold a different point of view regarding making notes in a book. By writing notes, making annotations, or highlighting words and phrases in the book, I am not vandalizing it. In fact, it makes revising easier for me later on. Oftentimes when I read a book, I will have a highlighter and pencil with me, just in case. Of course, if the book is not mine, then I will make notes in a separate notebook.

I think it's a good method to study, but i'm just not used to it. I like things in their original condition, i wish i could be able to annotate a book, but i just use post-its and paper. i used the word vandalise to relate how i feel about writing in a book to a larger example.

I agree with you. it's not right to spoil your books with highlights, notes and scribble. I was only told to do this when I studied English literature at college. I held back for as long as I could, but when the lecturer told me we could take the books into the exams I had no option but to write my notes on the lovely neat printed paper.
