Hi everyone,
I'm always entering competitions and contests but I never seem to win anything. The last time I won a competition I was nine years old. All I had to do was colour in a picture in a magazine and I won a water colour set. As you can imagine I was very excited, but since that I haven't won anything.
Have any of you ever won a contest or a competition. If so what did you have to do and what was your prize?

Competition is something that is nice, providing it is not taken too seriously. It should be taken seriously enough to obviously bring out the best in you but not too seriously where it loses its fun. I have been in many competitions where I have done well enough but fallen short and others where I am convinced that the fix is completely in.
I think the most vivid memory was when I was in I think the third or maybe fourth grade. I remember this because the teacher decided to teach us our multiplication tables in the way that stuck. Therefore, we played a game that was basically "bingo" only with multiplication problems during the time where we had math. The teacher held up a card with the problem and we had to cover it over the correct answer. Other than that, it was pretty much bingo.
All of the winners were put into a grand drawing at the end of the week of lessons for a grand prize. I was determined to do my best to win this game and I had won three times, but others had won more. Still I had won the grand prize. Forgot what it was, it was some small amount of cash but it was fun. Luck of the draw perhaps but I think that is where most competitions are in the end.

Yes you are right. All the competitions I enter are prize draws and they are all usually online so who knows how many names are in the hat.

About 6 or 7 years ago I won a full weekend package to a music festival in a nearby town. It included passes for the whole weekend, free accommodation, meet and greet with some on the bands - it was a pretty big prize. However, the goofy radio station that was sponsoring the contest didn't announce the winner until about 7 pm on the Friday of the festival. So by that time we had already had a few drinks so driving out there was out of the question and we also already had plans for the weekend. It was a pretty cool prize to win, but the contest was very poorly organized!

That is such a shame and you are right, that was a cool prize. Did you complain to the radio station? I would have done.

Im with you Beauty! I won a picture coloring contest when I was 12 from the city. I felt like an idiot because I didnt even color the picture. My friend did. I did win a thousand dollars on a scratch ticket once. I guess I am not the winning type. Figures.. dl

That's just how I feel, but if your not in it you're not going to win it! I'm actually hoping to win the lottery, the chances may be slim but someones got to win it!

I'm a crossword fanatic and have won several prizes - a selection of reference books (dictionary, book of quotations, a thesaurus and a book of English usage); an expensive Parker fountain pen; a coffee maker; and several book tokens. I sometimes enter competitions in my local newspapers (usually a basic question about an article) and have won tickets to the theatre, CDs and book tokens. It's all good fun! Good luck and, don't forget, you've got to be in it to win it!
