I Dreamed Another Dream!

When I'm MyLotting, I like to play a few YouTube tracks in the background. A certain Swedish friend of mine introduced me to this phenomenon, and I'm so glad he did. I'd just played one of my favourite Neil Diamond tracks, and one of the extraselections that popped up was this one. Susan Boyle has made the song instantly recognisable, of course, but this version by Neil, released soon after 'Les Miserables' first opened, is great. Have you come across any real gems on YouTube when you least expected it? Or maybe some cover versions that should definitely have stayed under wraps? : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzwhgJnCQCQ :

I was mucking around a bit with opera, found a soprano I really liked. Now I've forgotten her name though... That song is so dang sad. "there are dreams that cannot be and there are storms we cannot weather". Makes me cry, because that seems like my life right now...

Hello, Dawn. Sorry - didn't mean to make you cry, but perhaps you needed to anyway. I don't know if you read the note at the end, but Neil Diamond changed the lyrics slightly to give a message of hope at the end of the song and take away the bleakness of it all. Hang on to the hope, Dawn - things will improve for you, I'm sure.

I did notice the change at the end. I believe the original said "life has killed the dream I dreamed" and he said "can't kill" or some such thing...

You got it, Dawn. The best songs resonate with the listeners, and that one certainly does.

I don't usually bother with YouTube. But I might after reading this post and listening to that song. Thank you, Sandra.

Nothing specific but ,I like jumping rope and have watched rather a lot of youtube videos to see how to improve my own techniques. Some of the routines are excellent and one thing I noticed was that quite a lot of them use hip hop music in the background. That got me thinking about rhythm and how the music is perfect for not just jumping rope but also other forms of exercise. Youtube had definitely changed my mind concerning hip hop.

Hello, Pandaeyes. That's a new one on me. I must admit, when I hear the words 'hip hop' I run a mile, but I can see where you're coming from with the rhythm thing for exercise, as a good rhythm carries you along with it. I find that with my belly dancing classes, and I've got a few YouTube routines to practice to as well as my music for listening. I only discovered YouTube a couple of months ago, and I'm already wondering how I managed without it!
