What a tragic news on children!  

Where did this occur?
Do you have a link to the news story at all.
The Amish kids being killed last year was a targic event.
The only thing we can do actually is to educate children on the dangers of real life. Things happen that noone can deter though.

Very sad...

There's no where safe now, especially for the young and defenseless. I feel so sad just reading this post and wonder how much more of this things are actually happening, happened, and will probably still happen and what measures can be done to prevent such tragedies.

If we had a way to know in advance what makes people do this, we'd prevent it, right? Sadly we don't, so we can only do something after they happen.

Well that's not totally true. some mentally unstable people are out on the streets even though we already know there's a problem, probably due to not enough money to keep them locked up, get them treated, etc. That's something that ought to be fixed.

That is just awful and gave me a very sick feeling. Authorities think he may be mentally unstable. Ya think? This is terrible and I hope they can find the guy and make him pay for his crime. These poor kids.

You mentioned in your post about these things not happening years ago, although people probaly didn't run round hitting children with hammers there were terrible crimes. The public just didn't get to know about them except in extreme cases. The stories were certainly not reported accross the globe like they are today. The evolution of technology has made us all the more aware of these terrible crimes and in turn make us wrap ourselves and our loved ones up in cotton wool (not that thats a bad thing).

I work within a local community and work with all walks of life, some of which have committed terrible crimes against both adults & children. People are strange in the way they think & if it is influenced by dramatic events in their lives, drugs, alchol, mental health and so on, many of them couldn't tell you why they had committed their crimes. There are however the calculated horrors who know exactly what they have done.

We can only try & protect our families and pray nothing bad ever happens to them.

You know these news stories keep happening. All of them disturb me to no end. To differing degrees mind you, but really it is hard to tell when you are at this end of the spectrum of sick people. I am becoming less and less surprised by the actions of humanity as time passes more and more. Am I still sickened? Fortunately, I still am sickened, so I have not been dehumanized by a constant downpour of these sick people in this world. However, not really surprised as much as a younger, more idealistic version of me might have been.

Regardless, the fact that someone could do this to young children, who never harmed anyone in the world, just shows how sick someone is. I mean, I have heard people who have gone for a loop, but this is a man who is quite frankly sick in the head. I hope he gets locked up for a long time. I have no idea why this is happening. I'm sure it's happened before in the annals of time, but it just seems like it's getting more exposure for some reason and thus makes it feel like it is happening more often. I mean, I am at a complete loss for words beyond this point. Some people, I don't know, just some people.

..I don't think that dude had something against children in particular anyway.. he would have hurt anyone.

It makes me so mad when I hear of anyone hurting children. I haven't heard this story yet. How are the children? Those poor little kids must have been so scared. I have no answers there is evil out there. Yes this man is not sane but still no excuses. We don't know who are neighbors are and what danger lurks. We can protect our children as best we can. I don't know what the solution is. This world is a scary place. I haven't had any experience with that time of crime. How many times have children been taken from their own beds and later killed. It is very sad news.

Oh Jesus!!! Hitting young kids with hammer? What kind of a man he is? I am sure that he is more than 'unsound'. Wonder, why his family would let him go loose here and there... My heart's aching for those little kids now. May God protect them!

I have heard of child molestation cases etc., but this is new to me. I think, the schools should tighten the security in their premises and no person without a valid reason, should be allowed to enter the school... I feel terrible for those kids... Hope they're better now...
