I have a friend and her son goes to the same playgroup for special needs children as my son. She told me that her son has hydrocephalus and therefore he has two shunts in his head. My son has got hydrocephalus and spina bifida. During my friend's pregnancy her little boy's head grew too large for a normal birth. He was pressing against my friend's internal organs and she nearly died. She had to have an emergency c-section at 32 weeks pregnancy. The surgeon had to cut her tummy right across in order to get her son with a very swollen head out.
I was very lucky by comparison. I was worried in case my baby's head had grown. I had a quick and easy labor at home.
Do you know anyone that has had a difficult birth with their baby?

I can only speak about the birth of my son as I was partially present for his birth. At first things proceeded normally but as time went by my wife's cervix was not wide enough. The midwife and the doctor in charge told us to wait because he preferred in delivering the baby normally instead of a c section. My wife begged him to do it as she was in pain and told him that she has a family history of C Section. The doctor still maintained his position because every childbirth is unique and what happens to your mother or sister does not necessarily happen to you. Both my wife and my son were tired. They were in distress. After about eight hours in labour with no progress in view the doctor opted for an emergency c section. I was left out of the operation. I wished that I could see my son being born. I have never seen a normal childbirth. I really wished that I d have that opportunity in my life.

Difficult is relative, I guess. I did have to have a c-section with my twins because my son's heartbeat showed that he was getting distressed.
