What brand/type of sunscreen to use on our faces (I have sensitive skin/eyes)?  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 99/100. Loen210 (815)   ranked 900 out of 19,259 in questions & answers 2 years ago

I'm eager to hear what everyone uses for sunscreen on their face. My skin is very sensitive (and esp. my eyes when different lotion is used on my face), that it makes it very restrictive and difficult to wear facial sunscreen enough. I should actually be wearing it every day even in the winter, because of the sensitivity to sun.

But I'd appreciate hearing what brands people use, especially those with sensitive skin. Thanks in advance!

You should talk to your doctor about that. There maybe a ingedent thats in the sunscreen. Once you know what that is you could advoid anything sunscreen or lotion that has that certain ingerdent in it.

Thanks for replyaing, iamamommy,
Yes, I have asked many times. Off top of head, I forget one of the ingredients mentionted, but I had even tried ones without that ingredient and still am sensitive. I usually get all cold symptoms like headache and stinging eyes, andn sometimes might break out a bit. Plus I really don't like the very oily feeling. But I have to try out more; just wish there were more exact ones. I use ones that usually say SENSITIVE SKIN or allergy-free.

I use Aveeno. It's hypoallergenic and moisturizing at the same time. My skin is really sensitive to creams and stuff that I put on it and I haven't had any problems with any Aveeno products.

Harmonee,
I reallly appreciate your response. I can't remember if I have tried Aveeno over all the years, but that will be helpful, because I will try that one out. I've always gotten ones that state allergy-free or SENSITIVE SKIN, and I get cold symptoms or break out a bit. But headaches and stinging eyes are the main effeect.

I just wish they all weren't so expensive. So I can't afford to buy and waste many brands and compare them. I wish we could get a full assortment of trial free ones to find our matching sunscreen. ;o)

I will definitely looko into the Aveeno for next round. Thank you! :o)

Oopsie-doo, Harmonee,
I just found my squeeze paste type container of Aveeno that I had in my backpack, that I used through the summer and early fall, but couldn't tolerate it for very long. It doesn't say allergy free, but still hurt my eyes, and a bit of a headache. Glad it works for you though.

I hadn't seen one that said allergy-free, when I looked at CVS, but I'll have to search again, maybe online.
Thanks again.

There are special sunscreen lotions that are suitable for people with a sensitive skin. A boy in my daycarecentre had a special type as well but I only know the dutch brand name unfortunatly. I believe it was Dermalex but I am not sure.
Your doctor can tell you which type is best for you, or try your local pharmacy. Drug store that have educated pharmacists in their staff usually have know-how on these subjects aswell as these are products that you can get without a prescription.

Thanks cyber, for your resposne!
I have not heard of that brand before (or one that sounds like it at least). I'd appreciate if you ever find out what the typical brand and type is. I have asked many times for other recommednations from doctors and they've given general, which haven't helped. Also, haven't worked that well for me. I need one I think that I can wear also every day, 30+ SPF.

I've been to dermatologist also. I am okay with wearing the lotion on very sunny days for when I just step out for an hour or less, and wipe it all off as soon as indoors, but this isn't great, and also symptoms sometimes still last, btu I want one that I can wear throughout the day. Thanks, and please let em know if you know the one the boy wears. :o)

If I am able to track it down, I will be sure to let you know.
It was a clear substance, or a milky white see-through type, SPF 50+.
Not sure if it is the kind you can wear throughout the day but I guess at this point everything is worth trying. Good luck and I'll let you know!

I think I found it!
It's from Vichy, it's called Vichy Capital Soleil. They have one especially for kids but it's available for adults aswell. They have a Vichy Hydra Capitel Soleil facial suncream aswell; I guess it's especially designed for the skin around the eyes and such that gets irritated faster. Hope that helps!

You are wonderful!
Thank you so much. I will definitely put this on my list of things to check. I have never heard of it, so will have to check it out online for locations of distribution and reviews/info.

Thank you so much. :O)

Hi again,
thanks again for looking up the sunscreen brand for me.
I am looking for it to try out. But it is so expensive! Hmm, will have to do a lot of searching for discounts first. On amazon.com, and have never seen it in stores, but will keep eye open.

It's on my shopping list now! :o) Thank you, Cyber.

It is expensive but hopefully worth your investment. Let me know if you manage to get your hands on it at a decent price, and how it works for you! All the best.

I have very sensitive skin and eyes too. I don’t like using ordinary sunscreen because it makes my eyes water very badly; it’s okay on my body but not on my face! I now use Olay moisturiser for sensitive skin; I choose the one that has sunscreen in it and so far it has done the job although I still have to be very careful not to get it too close to my eyes. I don’t know if you can get Olay where you live though...

Hi Paula!
Good to see you again (and the cutie orange graphic I always smile seeing). :o)
Thanks for your response. Oil of Olay, I know sells in local drugstores like CVS here (assuming "Olay" means "Oil of Olay"). A few years ago, I remember they only had 15 spf, as I'd need higher, but will have to take a look. I haven't used their products in several years, as I had light reactions to the regular moisturizer on face with sore eyes. All this feedback is helpful. Thanks. :o)
