Race Relations in 2010

I can't believe that this is where we are in race relations on the United States of America in 2010. No matter your view of abortion. This is not a discussion on the law or morals of abortion but that a State is seriously considering whether to base abortion laws on race. I find this despicable and reprehensible. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/03/12/georgia-considers-outlawing-abortion-based-race-gender/?test=latestnews This reminds of an interview I read about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, http://axisofright.com/2009/07/09/ruth-bader-ginsburg-and-abortion-as-eugenics/ JUSTICE GINSBURG: Yes, the ruling about that surprised me. [Harris v. McRae — in 1980 the court upheld the Hyde Amendment, which forbids the use of Medicaid for abortions.] Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of. So that Roe was going to be then set up for Medicaid funding for abortion. Which some people felt would risk coercing women into having abortions when they didn’t really want them. But when the court decided McRae, the case came out the other way. And then I realized that my perception of it had been altogether wrong. What is your opinion regarding Georgia and abortions by race?

I am pro-choice anti-abortion (that is, it's the mother's decision, but I accept abortion only as a last resort). I disagree with the campaign/abortion is racially motivated. Clinics are located where there is demand, and it makes sense that that would be in urban areas, where many blacks (and whites) live.

I read that the population of black people in 2008 was 30% of the population in the state of Georgia. Yet it represented 57% of the abortion in that part of America. It showed a black baby saying he or she is almost endangered. I don't think that abortion for social reasons should happen unless the mother's life is in danger. I believe that abortion is wrong because it is killing an innocent baby. I think every baby is the world is a special gift regardless of color. Schools in Georgia should have lessons in child care. The thought of having a baby should be made a pleasant one.

sad stats. I agree that each baby is a gift and should be treated accordingly. I think they should teach to pregnant teens the glory of adoption. A 15 year old girl is hard pressed to offer any kind of decent life. I am not saying it is impossible, but it is improbable.

maximax - those statistics are almost certainly linked to poverty and maybe education, and sadly certain groups are still over represented amongst america's poor.
