How do you sell books on Chegg.com?  email this discussion to a friend?

Okay, so this one magazine they said that you can sell novels and textbooks on Chegg.com. It says you can get $40 for textbooks n $10 for novels. But I went online and every time i entered in the ISB code from my novels, it said that they were not eligable for sale. :( I even entered in one of my textbooks just to check and it said the same thing too! On the buttons on the website it says "Sell Textbooks" and "Rent Textbooks", etc. But TEXTBOOKS. It doesnt say any books, or novels. So, what's wrong? Did the magazine lie? Can you ONLY sell textbooks? Or, am I doing something wrong? I don't have an account, so maybe do you need to make an account first in order to sell anything? If anyone's used this site n knows how, please tell me!

Selling textbooks is always tricky. Most school buybacks and most buyback websites won't buy a book from you if they already have a full stock of that book, or if a new edition of the book has come out. With new editions coming out on a regular basis for most textbooks, this can make it really difficult to sell your books directly to a bookstore or book website. You might have more luck with a site like Amazon or Half.com where you sell your books directly to other site users. I personally recommend Amazon, because while Half.com has good policies to protect buyers, they do not do so well at protecting sellers.
I always understood that Chegg.com rented out textbooks rather than selling them, so it seems a little strange to me that they would buy used textbooks. It's possible you got faulty information.

NO but I was talking more about NOVELS. Because I have a ton of novels that I could sell, but I don't have any textbooks, seeing as I am still in highschool and textbooks are rented during the schoolyear and then returned. so it belongs to the school and I can't sell 'em. but okay. thx. id try Amazon. ooh, n wat do you mean by Half.com having bad policies for sellers? what could happen?

Basically, if the person who bought your item complains that they didn't recieve it, was damaged, etc., Half.com will pretty much automatically make you refund them even if they're lying. The site doesn't bother to check up on things to make sure that sellers aren't getting cheated.
The fact that you're still in high school explains why when you tried entering one of your textbooks, it said it was ineligible. I'm pretty sure they only deal in college level textbooks.
As for novels, there is no way that any site is going to pay you $10 for a novel when the list price for most novels is less than that. Most sites sell used copies of novels for anywhere from $.01 to $5.00, and hardcovers might get a little bit more. So don't expect your stack of novels to be a cash crop, unless you've got some nice collectible editions.

I'm really curious what magazine it was that said that. As far as I know, Chegg.com has never purchased anything other than used textbooks. They can be pretty picky about which textbooks they will purchase; you won't have much luck unless the ones you have are the latest editions available.

One site you might try is http://www.cash4books.net/ A few myLot members have said it's pretty good, and they had their payment for the books they sold within a week. They seem to mostly take books that have been released within the last 5 years. If you've got some books that are older than that, you might want to try trading them for credits on PaperBackSwap.com. You'll have to pay for media mail shipping to send the book to the recipient, but you'll get a credit that you can use to get a new book basically for free.

No I personally have not. I know some friends who have though. I've heard they have decent deals but you have to make sure it's the product you want. Decent website. I think i'll check it out later
