| has anyone here grown opium poppys before? :]  | | | |  i currently have four plants about 5 weeks in their doing great i was just wondering if anyone had any tips for the first time poppy cultivator :] witch type of harvesting do you belive gives a higher yeild? anything i want to watch out for? :o
i have done my reading and reasearch but any advice really would be appreciated :]

| |  My first piece of advice...don't post in a public forum that you are growing opium poppies.
I have grown poppies before, but they weren't that particular type so Im not completely sure on harvesting aspects...just how to get really nice blossoms to dress up the yard.. I understand it must be harvested before the flower dies off though, I think after that the gum begins to dry up. But don't take my word for it...get the best information you can. I do know they like plenty of sun..the more the better.

| | dont worry its not illigal to cultivate opium poppies supprisingly lol its just illigal to harvest and besides no one puts that much effort into busting people.
well when the pedals fall off the pod continues to grow for sometime when their near end you stop watering and sometime in right before they start browning is the optimum time for harvest. yes i have read a few books and done my share of reasearch i just like hearing from other gardeners because as i said this is my first time with poppies and theres somethings you can only learn from experience. i find poppies quite beutiful they are just so colorfull and i love the way the pod looks without the pedals :]]] and yes i noticed the more sun they get the happier they are :] i also make sure they get good airflow they seem to like that.
