What is a good sewing machine for a young girl?  

Thank you for you response. when I am ready to actually purchase it I will have to contact you, She is a young girl that loves designing her clothes and stuff. It hard to pick and choose and I want to make sue she really wants to learn since she is so active , this will require a bit of attention and sitting still, lol. Thank you.

Hi she is going to be eight, and I appreciate this very much.

When my 10 year old granddaughter was a baby I could NOT keep her out of the sewing cabinet. I have pictures of her EMPTING my cabinet. Loved to play with my thread. Now she is 10 and realy interested in sewing but she has such a active life. Monday nights she is home, Tuesday night she goes to her dad's, Wednesday night we have church, thursday night is girl scouts, every other Friday she is at her dad's for the weekend so it is very hard to sew with her. Maybe this summer after they get out of school. I was working the last 5 years but got fired in September so now I have time to work with them.

I was in our WalMart today and they had sewing machines and I looked for the one for kids and they didn't have it. I KNOW I have seen them there before, but they are also going out of the fabric here so maybe they just didn't get more in. I am teaching my 10 & 16 year old granddaughters to sew with my machine. They are doing ok but my machine is 30 years old and is all electronic and it spoils you to go to a new machine. I know several years ago it 'QUIT" on me right in the middle of Christmas costumes for our program at church and I went to WalMart and bought one! My son told me if I didn't return it he was, he worked there then, I was having such "fits" with it! We did return it and got a better one but it just was not mine! After I got mine fixed, my daughter kept asking me "what are you going to do with 2 sewing machines?" and I kept telling her I was returning it. I knew what I was doing with it, so imagine her surprise when she opened her present and found that machine!

I was in there and she was cutting fabric so I got a chance to see someone with knowledge (Like she told me they might keep their fabric and the other girl working was positive they would. In case you don't know a lot of the WalMarts are discontinuing their fabric department. You are welcome. Hope the information was of some help to you.
