A little over a year ago I told you about a friend whose dog had problems delivering her puppies. The Momma almost died, 5 of the babies died with only 1 surviving. Because of the start the one baby had, my friend doted over that little bundle of joy almost forgetting the Mom. After extensive conversations with her, I finally convinced my friend that the puppy would be better off in a loving home with a huge yard & LOTS of love!!! During this time, my friend was laid off from her job. She spent a lot of time reconnecting with her dog . The dog was the happiest I had ever seen her & so was my friend except for the fact that every time she found a job there was a layoff & she was back out of work. Since the last layoff she has had NO luck finding a job & has lost her home in the process. She can barely buy food for herself & needless to say the dog was going hungry except for the occasional rabbit she would catch. I couldn't stand watching all this happen so I took them both into my home. Since my friend wasn't paying any of the bills, she just couldn't be worried with conserving energy nor water. She'd take food out of the refrigerator & leave it sitting out & it would go to waste. She borrowed my clothes without asking & return with them ruined. Now, I don't mind sharing with my friends, but I do expect some cooperation when it comes to keeping expenses down. Needless to say we argued a good bit about this & I apparently hurt her feelings with my frankness & I came home one day to find that she had moved out. Guess what, she left the dog!!!
Over the years she had this dog, I fell in love with her & I don't have the heart to take her to the local humane society. If she were a puppy, she'd probably be adopted...but she's NOT. She's a grown dog that will unlikely be adopted out. I'm having problems feeding this additional dog, but so far NONE of my babies are going hungry. Maybe with the money I'm saving on utilities, I can buy dog food. This little girl is a sweetheart & she gets along well with my 2 dogs except when the time comes to eat. She is house trained so I keep her inside at night & let her out every morning. I feed her & the other 2 at night when she's inside, so they won't fight over food. I sure don't need any unexpected vet bills on top of everything else!!! I just adore this little girl & do enjoy having an indoor dog!!!
She gets along well with my 2 cats. I'm still having to train her to NOT eat the cats' food!!! Below is a picture of my new adoption. She's a Jack Russel Terrier with a bobbed tail. Have you ever taken in an unexpected adoptee & how did it happen to you???

First of all your Friend is one ungrateful so and so
You where good enough to give her a Home and she treats you like that I just do not understand People like that
How could she leave her Dog behind?? No matter what I would never leave Gissi for anything no matter what, then I would not treat a Friend like she treated you the ungrateful so and so
Your little Girl is a Sweetheart she is lovely and so sweet I am glad that you kept her

AWWWW, Gaby, do you really think she is an ungrateful so and so???
I started to not offer her a place to stay as I feared losing a friend. However, I NEVER dreamed she'd do the things she did!!! I especially was shocked that she just walked off & left Joy behind!!! For the first couple of weeks I thought she'd be back to get Joy...even if she waited until I wasn't home to take her. By week 3 I was beginning to understand that I had a third dog whether I wanted it or not. On week 4, I started worrying how I'd feed 3 dogs. I'm still concerned about feeding all 5 of my babies, but I'm cutting corners everywhere I can. My expenses went down a lot once she was out of my home & I'm not feeding them canned food as often as I was before. The dogs actually prefer the dry food to the canned food so they don't care. The cats are fussing daily because they want their canned food back. I know I'll get all this worked out over time, but I just can't look my 2 cats in the eyes so far!!!

Hi LadyM,
Why do people have to be like that, if this lady done that to you, I don't think she was your true friend, also to leave a pet behind, how could she do that? its like leaving your child, oh well, I think the dog is better off with you as you can love her more.

You're correct Tamara, she's NOT much of a friend!!! I've been her friend for over 20 years. Fortunately, I've never had to test our friendship until now!!! I'm disappointed, but NOT shocked at what she's done. Since I couldn't walk away from any of my babies, I was a little shocked that she left Joy behind. I like to think it is because she knew Joy would have a good home, but I sometimes wonder if she even cares!!! Then I tell myself that had she cared, she'd have said I've found another place to stay...will you please keep Joy until I get straightened out. As it is, she hasn't even called to see if Joy is OK. I'm hoping that she's slipped by my house while I was away to atleast say hey & check on Joy...but who knows???

About ten years ago I was driving home from work when I saw the Boss and p1kelet coming out of a house in a less than smart part of town. Naturally I stopped and asked what was happening. Next thing I knew I was putting as box with a white bunny in the back of the car together with a hutch. The house belonged to some people who have found the rabbit and gave us the hutch. Needless to say I spent the next five years feeding, cleaning the rabbit. She had the run of the garden and wouldn't go into her hutch until nightfall. If I tried to get her in earlier she would go and hide under one of our sheds. In the morning she'd be sitting by her hutch waiting for breakfast! Our neighbour had a Jack Russell who would come into the garden go up to the rabbit and then run away when she thumped her back leg! Mind she was nearly as big as him!

I don't know what kinda bunnies you people grow in Europe, but we have cute little bunnies here. The bunnies that run across my back yard aren't as big as my cat. I can tell from the pictures Leif posts of his rabbit, that you don't grow little bunnies, you grow HUGE rabbits!!!
I'm finding that Jack Russells are extremely intelligent dogs. Atleast this one fascinates me with the way she finds to communicate with me!!!
The couple that owned my house before me raised rabbits too. There was a rotted hutch when I first moved in but it collapsed. Fortunately there were no rabbits in it at the time!!!

NO, I don't want anybody to adopt her!!! Actually, I have become VERY attached to Joy since she's been here. She is a sweet little dog, very well behaved & listens real well!!! My complaint is that I wasn't planning on taking on another dog & after having my friend stay here my checking account is lower than it should be. Now I have an extra dog to feed. I'm sure that in the long run Joy will be worth it as she is a very sweet & loving dog. I don't see me getting rid of her just because her previous owner was ignorant!!! I'm back to turning off & unplugging electrical appliances & I'm making many adjustments to my grocery shopping. I'm going to call Angel Food Ministries in a bit to see if they have any deals on dog food. I'm sure I'll get everything worked out in the next few months, but this was a shock that I hadn't anticipated!!!
