9-year-old N.Y. schoolboy almost suspended for playing a 2-inch LEGO gun!  

I think watch your kids doing because it may harm him as he gets old. Proper guidance musty be establish in our kids now a days.

Yeah it just goes to show you exactly how paranoid that we are getting about anything that might resemble a weapon in a school. And for good reason granted, because of all of the incidents regarding school shootings. So I can understand where they are coming from, even though it might sound absurd on the surface. I am just surprised this is an actual rule that is on paper. Which means someone had to think of it.

Of course, toy guns could become real guns one day. That is always possible. So perhaps it is just as well that the problem is taken care of right away, instead of being an even larger problem. Still this was one of these situations where you would never expect to happen and it seems absurd, even if you can kind of see the reasoning behind what is occurring.

I think it's ridiculous. Kids have played with toy guns and pretend guns probably ever since guns were invented...and before that they played with toy swords and pretend swords. (I did both, depending on what era I imagined myself in on the day and what shape the sticks I happened to find outside were.) I definitely don't think it's harmful, and I really can't imagine a LEGO gun was threatening to anybody either. Since his dad was a cop, it's hardly surprising this kid is interested in guns. It definitely doesn't mean he's going to be a criminal -- to the contrary, he could become a police officer or join the army. Can't we just focus on basic morality, like emphasizing that murder and violence are wrong? For some people, all the natural apprehension they feel about crime and violence is focused on guns, more so than on the criminals that use the guns as well as other weapons.
