Thou Shall Not Kill | | | | During the parting of the sea where moses led his people to safety, I don't understand why the ten commandments says thou shall not kill. Why were the people chasing after moses and his people drowned and killed? | | | | | | | | | | Religion School Become a Skilled, Reliable Religious Professional. Enroll In a School! | | In my limited understanding, I found out that the commandment "thou shalt not kill" means that we should not intentionally kill someone without a valid cause. God doesn't kill people without any reason at all. God allows people to die because of sin. God is a righteous God and is long-suffering, loving. Yet His love and patience has an end. Therefore, when God gave that commandment, He explained that there should be none who planned and intentionally kill someone. That's how I understand the commandment. | | | | | | | | dvorced2008 (12)

| | I see your point. But being raised as a catholic all my life taught us how to deal with valid cause in a non violent way. For example, there's a saying in the bible where it says, if someone throws a rock at you, you throw back bread at him. God doesn't allow people to die because of sins, he makes you confess your sins, pray for your sins, and you're forgiven. God's love and patience has no end because he is the truth, the life, and the salvation. If God is so powerful, why couldn't he just let moses and his people walk on water, or so make them fly, or invinsible? No offense but there's just too much contradiction in the bible. | | | | lotterylover (7440)

| | Sometimes God has to allow these things in order to save others. Look at where the Jews are today because they did not destroy all the heathens around them. Instead of them influencing the heathens the heathens influenced them. When they left God he then allowed troubles to come upon them. Even the heathens could see this and instead of attacking them they just mingled with them and converted them to heathenism. That is why your friends are important even today. Wickedness always seems so much more exciting and easy to do. | | | | | | | Religion School Become a Skilled, Reliable Religious Professional. Enroll In a School! | | This life is an unavoidable drama (and lesson) the offshoot of having thinking ability/ability to choose rather than being robots, God has interfered two or three critical times, but not totally interfering in this drama or else it wouldn't be 'free will'. How many times did God tel Pharoah to let God's people go? The commandments say man is not supposed to kill, not God. God gives life, after the sleep in death, which will seem like a moment, he resurrects all. I think it's best to ask God these questions, as the way I understand it he will judge me, I won't judge him.. | | | | | | | | | | Air Conditioning Repair Affordable Air Conditioning Service & Repair www.theplumbingdoctoronline.com | add comment | | | |

| | The people chasing Moses and the Israelites were killed not by Moses but by God. The instruction in the Ten Commandments "Thou Shall not Kill" is directed by God to the people, the Isrealites, and then for us. It is God's Commandment to people and not God's Commandment to Himself. Plus, they were killed for protecting Moses and his people. The Ten Commandments were given not only for the Israelites but also for us. It is now our "guiding principle" needed to have an orderly world and for preventing chaos. Breaking that law will lead to some horrible consequences. So, there is a reason or good purpose why God gave us that Law. | | | | | | | | | | Serve God & Our Fellowman Become a Pastor/Christian Educator w/a Master Degree (MEd) in Religion EducationDegreeSource.com/Online | add comment | | | |

| | The ones that were after Moses and the Israelites, was Pharoah and his army. They had decided after letting them go that they needed them to help build the city. Little did they know that God had other plans, and when they got close to them, if you remember right, he stopped them with a pillar of fire, just long enough for the Isrealites to get across the Red Sea, then the pillar of fire was gone and Pharouah and hsi army proceeded to go across the Red Sea. It was God who parted the Sea and then brought it back together again. God is a merciful God, but he also will let those die that do evil to others. Because of Pharouah's hatred of Moses and God, he paid the ultimate price, and it was in God's providence that it happened. Sure, we aren't to kill anyone as that is what the commandment says, but when it came to Pharoah and his army, it was by God's hands they died. Take care, and have a very good day. | | | | | | | | | | The Ten Commandments Ten keys to a successful and happy life. Read your book now. ucg.org/bible-study-aid | add comment | | | |
