Hotel Room Biased Towards Right-Handed People!

I have mentioned before that I am ambidextrous and, during our recent trip to London, it was a good job that I do possess this "gift." rolleyes

We stayed at a Premier Inn, this particular hotel was in Brentford. Premier Inns are a chain of hotels dotted all over the UK (and abroad too) so most people will have experienced one at some time or other.

However, I'm not too sure if every Premier Inn has an electric kettle geared towards right-handed use ONLY! The particular kettle in our Premier Inn was on a shelf sticking out from a wardrobe. The base was actually stuck to the shelf with the kettle facing me. Now, in order to reach the handle at the back I had to lean my right arm over and could only just do this as the wardrobe was in the way! Then it got me thinking; what if I wasn't ambidextrous (able to use both hands) as there was no way I could do the same with my left arm due to the positioning of the kettle.

How frustrating that must be if - say, a couple were both left-handed! Due to the "housing" of this kettle no way could I reach the handle with my left hand, absolutely impossible in fact!

Has anything like this ever happened to any other left-handers out there?

One thing that does wind me up are pens in banks that are always attached to chains on the RIGHT HAND SIDE. I have to turn right round in order to write anything! I know I'm clever but I can't actually write with my right hand. lol Fortunately, everything is done electronically in banks now but I used to complain about it all the time. Not everyone is right-handed! whistle

NO, not everyone is right handed, but the majority are.

Back in time, children with left handed tendencies were "taught" not to use the left hand, but to use the right hand instead. As they tried to do things with the left hand, the knuckles were smacked. I guess, at some point, the child switched to right handedness.

Here in the US, the pens are chained to a point in front of the person so whether you are right or left handed makes no difference

That's how it should be! Thankfully, we don't really need to use pens in banks anymore because that would be too much for them, changing the pens so EVERYONE can use them!

Now, let's see how clever I am. You mention scissors...I use them with my right hand. You mention a tin opener; agan, right-handed, whether I use a manual or battery-operated version. Our tall fridge/freezer has doors that can be moved to the other side if need be but because I'm ambidextrous we don't have to. Our microwave opens from the right but it's no problem for me. God forbid if I ever had to use a gun but I'm sure it would be the right hand I'd fire it from.

You need to find an article about anbidextrousness lol. If not, I may write one myself in future. happy

I am right handed, but both of my roommates are left handed - both, like most of the left handed person's I've met - do pretty well a lot of things with their right hands, better than I do with my left. I think most left handed people do use their right hands more than most right handed people do with their lefts just because so many things are geared for the right handed world.

The thing is; with me I wasn't aware that I was left-handed and others were right-handed. I wasn't the kind of child to worry about such things, so it was natural for me to use my right hand. It was other people who would point this out to me..stuff like using a stapler with my right hand, that kind of thing. I'd think to myself "Oh, yeh, I'm using my right hand for this" but to me, it was natural to do so. Hope this makes sense!

call down the front and ask for a lefty.most hotels i worked at had a few things around.
i'm ambi too-got that way when i was forced to stop using the left.

Were you really? sad I know that a few centuries ago lefties were thought of as witches and were burned at the stake, therefore there are not many of us around now. That goes for pure black cats...even cats with a tiny bit of white on them were killed as well so both types of cats are now rare. sad

I've noticed that many great people are left-handed, Barrack Obama being one I can remember off the top of my head. happy
