Do you let your children, etc. ride on a lawn mower when you are mowing?

We just had a neighboorhood accident here and a boy about 7 is in serious condition after being ran over with the lawn mower. My discussion is to remind everyone that when you are mowing or doing yard work, in this case it was a lawn roller, not to let your children ride on the mower. It is so much easier to have them mad at you because you told them NO then to be setting in a hospital with them injured and seeing the pain they are going through. When my kids were growing up my daughters best friend was ridding on the lawn mower with her dad and picking up sticks, she fell off and it cut her toes off. So please, just tell them NO!

Thank you for your response. Getting to be that season and hope that the reminder will keep some children safe. Saddly it is a very common practice if you watch the news, happens a lot. The purpose of this post was to be a reminder and warning to all!

I just got on here to let everyone know that the little boy is doing fine and was in church on Sunday. Praise God.

That is tee totally stupid! Lawn Mowers are dangerous why would anyone let their kids ride on one! Or even be near one when they're too young to understand! I hope the boy will be okay!

Well no of course not but there are some risks you have to protect them from and this is one of them I feel. I mean not for all ages, but until they're maybe ten years old.. I would keep 'em away.

Thank you both for your comments. We have to learn to be WISE parents and as parents we need to know when to say NO and enforce it. I think you are both right, we can't always protect them but we do need to keep them safe. Again, Thank you both so much for your comments.

The "resident expert" aka neighbor does this with his DD. We cringe that she's going to fall off or whatever... but he talks so big he wouldn't listen to anything one would have to say about his DD riding the mower with him. All of our kids have to be in the house when DH is mowing that way DH doesn't get spooked by one of them (focusing on the mower not the kids) or them getting hurt acidentally. They hate it but that's too bad!

Yes we were the same way when mowing. My kids are with their children too. As parents we need to stand up to our kids for their own safety. There is a time for everything, and riding a mower when your mowing is not a time for kids. Thank you for your reply!
