I Don't See Any Leafs...What's Wrong?  email this discussion to a friend?

I got most of my garden put in last week. Earlier this week, I made my little hills for the watermelon, cantelope and cucumber seeds. I've been watching everyday and nothing's happening. What's wrong? After you've planted your garden, do you find yourself impatient with the growing process? It's like I want the tomatoes, beans, cabbage, watermelon, etc. NOW. How do you learn to be patient?

It is like watching the kettle boil Hofferp or like a baby being born..

It is only going to happen when it is ready.

I love gardening and wish I had a place to do it..

No garden here me dear, but then again, there is plentiful sand.

I know and the kettle's not boiling... I wish you had a garden too. I always dread the thought of getting started, because I have nothing but rock to work with, but then once I get the pick out and the rocks out and put the soil in...I'm ready to go. Now, I find I'm so impatient. I want to start eating tomatoes and watermelon today! Have a Happy Easter, OceanTiara!

All the plants you've mentioned have plenty of water presumably you've watered them. It could be as OceanTiara says, like watching a kettle boil it happens only when you are not looking.

Yeah, I've been watering them everyday. I'm just so impatient! Thanks for your reminder to water... Guess I'll go do that this morning.

It can take up to 2 weeks for the seeds to germinate but sometimes if you soak them a day or two they'll go a lil faster.

I'm not too impatient with the process. I'm impatient waiting for the frost dates to go by... I can't really plant til atleast Mother's Day at absolute earliest or the safest date is Memorial Day wich by then you are better off buying some plants from the green house and maybe doing a few from seed.

Wow, that's late. You must be way up north. I'm only 40 miles from the Mexico border (near El Paso, TX). I started several things with plants to get a head start. But the watermelon, cantelope, cucumbers and beans were from seed. I didn't soak them, I probably should have. Still nothing yet. But I keep watching for sprouts.

Stop watching them so intensely. Sounds like you have planted and done everything that is needed to get them started. You may have put the seeds lower in the ground which would take longer to sprout. Be patient, you will see results of your work soon.

My daughter is going through the same thing. Wanting everything to be up and growing Now...lol

Maybe I should meet your daughter and we could watch together :}

One thing that keeps her from watching 24/7 is her job, lol

Otherwise she is always checking.. all I can say is be patient. whistle

Nothing this morning... Oh, I remember, be patient :}

Got an idea for you, don't look for a couple of days. Give your garden time to work without the watchful eye. We are getting alot of rain the last couple of days and things are popping up around here. My daughters Tulip bloomed today.

It's hard to do when you have to water every day. Guess I could close my eyes...

skip a watering for one day, it isn't going to hurt them. Depending on what your trying to grow you may need to water only once every other day. Yep I learned that the hard way one year. To wet the seeds with rot instead of growing.

Thank you for the advice. I was going to post a discussion on how often to water, now I don't have to. I skipped yesterday, just because I didn't feel like watering (but I still looked to see if I had a sprout :}). I watered today, so tomorrow, I'll skit it and follow your advice. Thanks, again, Youreyes4Today.

So we started planting last week. I ran to the store and produce was a crazy cheap price. I bought a bunch! We have been eating lots of fresh produce everyday. It doesnt even come close in taste, but at least we are getting something!

myLot reputation of 97/100. hofferp (2894)   ranked 151 out of 1,674 in gardening  2 years ago

I've been buying a lot of produce also...in anticipation of having vegetables for every meal. How long before yours will start to sprout?

We have it way out back so I dont stare happy I guess another week. I woke up this morning and here is snow! Crap

myLot reputation of 97/100. hofferp (2894)   ranked 151 out of 1,674 in gardening  2 years ago

A minor setback. It'll still grow. Just think, you won't have to water...

myLot reputation of 97/100. hofferp (2894)   ranked 151 out of 1,674 in gardening  2 years ago

I have beans and cucumbers thumbup! Well, not exactly, but the darn little sprouts just came out of the ground. I'm still waiting on the watermelon and cantelope. I also killed one tomato plant and the pepper plant, must have watched them to death lol. Did your 40 acres recover from the snow? Have a great day, Laglen.

we havent been out to our acreage, too busy with work. I have been slammed with an account I have. The event is this weekend so hopefully I will be back to normal next week. Maybe? hehe. Way to go you over achiever! We dont have anything sticking out yet and your already killing stuff! lol. We put down a ton of grass seed yesterday and we put plastic down on our garden to warm it up some more and hold in moisture. We will see!
