I think you need only to adjust on the environment and observe. You will conquer it later, gain some friends.

It is okay to be a little bit shy and conservative, however college is the times in your life where you need to boom and shine. After college it is the real world. Try to experience and do as many things as possible, as to not have any regret and you won't think back twenty years from now and say I wish I did that, because you would have already done it. Just try to make friends with people who make you feel comfortable. As ghiphet said, you just need time to acclimatize into your new environment. Have fun, college rocks!
