"Green-walk.....Red-stop" You've got 25 seconds  

Ours is pretty slow..I think you get 30-40 seconds and most are small sections but there is a sign that says once across to push the silver button so it changes faster..I think they should maybe do that there. or maybe they figure it is to much a hassle..but the elderly need to be taken care of. Heck the stress alone of only be half way across is bad enough,,then to have horns honking..is just to much..they could get hurt trying to walk a faster pace..especially if it had been raining out or when other weather makes it harder to walk at a fast pace..I think they should have it to 30-40 seconds..but then we aren't a fast pace town...thankfully.

hi missybear I am in California and we too have rude people and what
really tees me off is to see people sitting there in their cars honking at the crossing guard who is escorting children across the streets from the nearby school and some are starting to edge their cars towards the kids trying to hurry across the streets. MyG if people do not even have enought patience to let little kids cross the street without trying to gun their engines while the little ones are still in the cross walk? What happen to ordinary courtesy. are kids and old folks no longer to be tolerated as they have to gun their cars just to get to a bar, or a beauty shop? In tustin we had one crossing guard lady hit and injured by an impatient motorist, I cannot see why anything is in t hat much of a hurry?.,As a senior citizen I also have trouble getting across as I have a brace on my left leg and I am not as able to walk fast as I would love to be. sorry but true.

In the town I lived, the traffic lights would give enough time to pedestrians crossing streets. The problem here is some traffic lights changing its signs so slow, let's say a 5 meter short section, people might need to wait almost 5 minutes. Some elderly are so in hurry and don't follow the signals of the traffic lights which is so unwise.

THat is scary. you must have a presence of mind when crossing the street or else you will be fined or hit. you are not suppose to walk...you need to run. OMG.

My toddler son is disabled and he goes to a playgroup for disabled children. Therefore I know how slowly some people walk. My son isn't able to walk at all. Blind people walk with a guide dog and they go along slowly. Elderly people may walk ever so slowly. I think that 25 seconds crossing time isn't at all generous. It is stressful for the elderly and disabled folk rushing to get over in time. When they see the flashing red light they might feel they could be knocked down by the traffic. Motorists using a horn would be very rude indeed. Crossing are longer in my home country but they can take ages to work in some cases. Some people cross the road on a red man sign when they must wait for a green man sign.

I love walking around my city. Every walk sign shows you how many seconds you have left, so you know how long you have left. They also talk and tell you to cross or not.
People usually help older or disabled people across, even if it's just slowing down a bit and saying hello.
I live in a suburb, but the times/places I've walked in the city are like this too... except by the Justice Center. :)

I live in a small town and we don't have such problems at all.There are traffic people alone for this purpose and no traffic signals at all.But our cities have this system but there will be more seconds for the pedestrians to cross the roads and there will be this zebra lines for the pedestrians.

Uhm...we have NO red lights in the small town where my son and I are moving. LOL! Everyone knows everyone and watches out for each other. I'm hoping it's going to be nice!
