| |  I think you are talking about arrange marriage. Even in case of love marriage it is true. In case of love marriage, most of the time a person try to select their partners according to their looks. Then comes the financial status, family condition etc. But in the case of arrange marriage both of the person goes for the financial status mostly, then family, culture etc. And in my experience in case of arrange marriage people doesn't try to go for very good looks. They feel contented in "not bad" condition of their spouse, it is may be because they are getting all the other aspects very well.
To be very frank not in love marriage or arrange marriage, they can be able to check a persons character very closely. One is get blinded by love and the second one is contented by the fulfilled demand.
I am agree to you, they should have choose a person by their characters as well. But sadly in reality, that doesn't happens.
