Do you think a security guard should carry a gun in your country?  

I believe if you are going to be a security guard , you need to have law enforcement training, period. You need to carry a gun and know how and when to use it. Wanna be cops get people hurt and really cannot help people. Any bystander can call the law enforcement on the line and report it, but it takes time to respond. You need to get help when you need it, not have a nobody make a phone call that you can do yourself..

A security guard has to have some weapon depending on the threat perception.The weapon he is carrying should be dependent on the nature of crime that is being committed in the country.Weapons might not totally prevent crime but it deters some people from taking chances.More than the weapon it depends on the security persons skill in using arms to prevent or deter potential criminals from carrying out their nefarious designs.The threat perception in my place is moderate to extreme depending on the prevailing circumstances.

All our security guards are fully armed. We prefer it that way. TATA.

Security guards should have guns instead of plainly stick or rod. Unlike China or other countries, security guards here in the Philippines aren't required to learn martial arts for self defense (just only the basics of disarming).

From my opinion, it would be better if they only use pistols, handguns and such coz shotguns are too heavy and too long for them to shoot it in fast pace crimes like robberies.

In the areas where I live, some security guards have guns (because they are trained) and some have only night sticks and walkie talkies. Whe I was a security guard, I only had a night stick and walkie talkie. Unknown to me when I worked at the amusement park many years ago, I only had those things. Little did I know because no one told me, that I was guarding Cash Control, a place where they counted the money! I trust cameras better, because a robber will try to get the jump on you (the element of surprise) whether you have a weapon or not. Alertness is the best policy.

At least he could caught a thief or some bad persons during his duty period he need the arms in his hands.

I believe that a security guard should or must be issued a firearm to use in case there are robbers or someone who try something either to get things or to rob someone. I don't think that robbers nowadays will rob without an arm. I believe that most robbers or people who does bad things are armed and if a security guard is only armed with a stick, then he will not be that effective if the criminals are armed with weapons that are sophisticated. I want security guards to have the needed gun that is effective and functional.

Yes security guards should carry guns otherwise they have no way to protect the place and even themselves should robbers attack them. They just have to be responsible enough in handling their guns. Playing with it or doing it when not necessary would be so risky.

A gun is the only weapon that the security guards can use to ensure secuturity so each guard carries one. The only problem is that there has been quite afew incidences where these guards have been abused. For example just the other month, two university students were shot dead by a reckless security guard here in Uganda.

This is interesting! I used to work as a security officer myself many years back. Living in London I know that security staff are not allowed to carry any kind of weapon which includes guns. I don't want to sound as though I am trigger happy or anything but I would have thought it would have been a good idea if we were allowed to carry guns. I know that security officers in the United States are allowed to carry guns and I'm sure they feel far more secure as a result of this. I suppose this all relates to the laws of the land in different countries. Fortunately I never faced any major situation whereby I felt my life was threatened in any way. I think our laws are probably far too strict, we're not even allowed to carry a stick as security officers. The perpertrators are protected it seems and allowed to do what they want and get away with what they want! Andrew
