Have you been to any where legends are steeped and alive?  

I haven't been to anywhere like that, but nice story. ANyway I know I'm not supposed to believe in such things as legends and myths, but I do. I'd like to make-believe they really happened. LoL. It really enlivens my imagination.

Yes, I have been to my Mother's homeland which is Ireland, and there are many many old stones and castles and places haunted and legendery..you almost cannot escape it in Ireland, for it is everywhere all around!

Yes in Jerusalem there is a place called the Wall of the Prayers. It is remains of the First Temple built by the King Shlomo ( Salomon ). There is a legend saying that if you put a message in the cracks of this giganstic Wall, all your wishes will come true.
And it is true that if you go there to kiss the Wall or to speak to God, the Wall is full of messages. They come regulary to take the messages and burry them in the Holy Land. Actually you can send a fax if you can't go to Jerusalem.
A few years ago there was a guy called Hussein Obama who put a message in the cracks. But they cheated and read his message on TV. Nothing special. He wanted some help from God to be President. Well sometimes it works!

Hi, I just came across this discussion and hope it will continue. I too experienced the feeling that I was walking into a living legend while in Ireland. It seems that ancient beliefs are just below the surface in that beautiful country. One of the most spiritual (in a non-denominational way) was Newgrange, an ancient structure built 1000 years BEFORE Stonehenge. It is a beautiful, mystical, magical place--and all the more amazing because of its size, and the amount of rocks that needed to be hauled from 100s of miles away in order to complete it. And the inner chamber lines up directly with the sun's rays on winter solstice! Truly an amazing place, and very much alive. I have to say we felt the same way about Stonehenge itself--we were the only ones there on a cold afternoon, and I swear you could hear the Druids chanting and whispering through the rocks. Another wild, beautiful and mystical place.
