Is ok for a 4 month old baby to have her ears pierced?? |
| |
| I have a daughter who is nearly 5 months old and my friend has a baby daughter who is a couple weeks younger. Now that her baby has finished her first 3 immunizations, she said as a 'treat' she was going to get her daughters ears pierced!! Am I the only one who thinks that this is crazy and wrong?? Who is it a treat for??? Not the child thats for sure! At 5 months old my baby girl is discovering her body and loves pulling at her ears!! I couldn't imagine anything worse than finding that she has ripped her ear or swallowed the earring! My friends argument for this is that she had her ears done at 7 and screamed the place down and still remembers the 'pain'. She said she wants to spare her baby that because she wouldn't remember anything!! So is it just me or do you think she is crazy too to put her child through that?? Surely having a babys ears pierced so young is more for the mothers image?? | | | | | |

| | I don't see why it is a big deal for other people piercing ears at a young age. I know many babies who've had their ears pierced as soon as they were born, at the hospital where they were born. I haven't heard of babies who got ripped ears because of this. I think it is because they're too young to manipulate their hands to make it go to their ears, just as they don't care about their navel wound or scratch it. But if you are scared for you baby, it is your choice. | | | | | | |

| | am from the philippines and i know we're a little backward on a lot of things but having babies with pierced ears as early as 4 months old is quite okay here with the doctors, of course, doing the piercing. | | | | | | |

| | hi lovelaural, I don't mean no offense but I don't think it is crazy or wrong..It's actually your choice whether you want it or not like piercing your child's ear at an early age or later years. My sister had her ears pierce in the hospital 3 days after she was born. My daughter's pediatrician told me that the ears of a baby is still very soft thus she will feel pain but it won't last long and her sensation is not like the adult wherein you can feel the pain. My daughter's pediatrician pierce her ears when is 2 weeks old and it's not about my image,I just want to spare her from feeling the pain when she is aware of it already and it's a licensed doctor who did it. | | | | | | |

| | You are certainly not the only one who thinks this is wrong! 5 months old is too young to have pierced ears! It may look cute though the baby wont know what is happening and be faced with pain when getting them pierced and possible infections as babies play with their ears a lot and what if the baby pulls the earings out and either cuts themselves with it or eats the fallen earing!! I completely disagree with having babies ears pierced - I will probably wait until my daughter is at least 9 years old and have her decide whether she wants it done when she has complete understanding of what is involved! | | | | | | |
