It is a bit strange question because usually people say that if you have the proper education you may do everything you want but here in Bulgaria it is quite difficult to find suitable position according to the education you have. You just need more known people who may help you find a good job. What about your countries?

Yes. If not to find a suitable job, it is so that you could raise in ranks faster than those that does not have the same qualification as you are. This is true with some of my friends who are currently studying in a degree program in my university. They are diploma holders and one of the main reason they decided to get a degree was because they could no find a position suitable for their degree. For example, a friend of mine could not get a job as a chemical engineer eventhough he has a diploma in it. He was working as an engineering salesmen before this which is selling pumps, boilers, compressors and other factory equipments.

Well for a job that means stable career and stable source of income, then I have to say yes. Companies here in my country look for competent people who graduated with a complete degree and from a reputable school. Although I have to say, I still make money without being a college graduate yet. I will still pursue my dream part-time job, which is to earn thru my music. I know that it is not a stable source of income, but it will definitely help me earn a little extra money which is a good help in my opinion. And I am starting as early as now. I would not depend on earning after graduation alone.

In our country we believe that by getting a good course in reputable college universities would land you to a better job. But its not always that case, sometimes it also need to be how good you are. You really need to excel as what they say once you are applying for a job you need be a "an apple in the basket of tomato". YOu need to be unique, unique in a way that is impressive. Impressive with the skills and ability.

Some company has that thing who you know system. Before you could apply they will asked you who refer you? or do you know anyone from this company?. Once you have a good answer they will no longer look at your diplomas or resume they will schedule right away your initial interview.

Thank you for your wonderful discussion regarding this matter in our country it is better you get degree in a university to find a better job especially when you aim a high position in a company you need also to get master's degree. But when you are still studying and you have a part time job it is also helpful to get better job because they considered your work experienced and assured you that you are able to do your task and responsibilities in your job.

No, mokka. I live just north of your country, in Romania, and from my personal experience I can say that in many Balkan countries the relevance of education is close to zero, as you need to know a person who can "introduce" you within a certain system (either public or private).

Here in Romania for instance, if you want a good job in a public institution you have to:
- be a member of the governmental party (parties)
- pay someone a certain ammount of cash in order to get the job (you pay even for them to advertise the job in such a manner so no other candidate could jump into; and even if she/he will jump, the job would be dedicated to the one that pays)
- sleep with an influential person in order to obtain a good job
- be a part of a minority group (either ethnic, religious, sexual) or of a mystical coommunity (like freemasonry, etc) in order to have these organisations work for you and find you a suitable position within the system
- be stupid and have a good ability to kiss some parts of your future boss's body
- be a part of a local/regional/national gang/mob
- be lucky

Really? I can't believe our country is better than yours with regards to employment. Philippines is one of the third world country yet to obtain a work is not that difficult. If you want to work for government, you must at least a civil service eligible. You can obtain such eligibility by passing the civil service examination or through PD907 (granted to honor graduates). There are also some who work without passing such exam but definitely they can't be a regular government employee.

Working in private companies are likewise not that difficult. If you are university degree holder, with right attitude towards work and knowledgeable enough, then you will be hired.

A Filipino with great qualifications such as yours are working in top corporations or companies are the one offering job.

And do take in account that Romania now is in much better condition than Bulgaria. So try to imagine how we here are looking for job.

hgwyneth - constant exposure to bureaucracy and the political volatility of my country had an enormous impact on the living conditions and contributed to a certain extent to the institutionalization of corruption. And generalized corruption at governmental level generates strange mutations. I visted Manilla in 2003, i guess, and I was really impressed on the flexibility of the market and on the opportunities there.
Here, if you are in the right boat, you can earn alot. On another hand, as mokkka highlighted it, you keep looking for jobs.
P.S. Don't believe in the "3rd World countries" like denominations.

mokkka, my best friend is Bulgarian and I am, to a certain extent familiar with what happens there. Maybe the things will change in our countries, or else we might have to go working abroad.
P.S. Bulgaria is an amazingly beautiful country, I love driving to Balcik, once in a while or enjoying some time on Bulgarian seaside. Simply breathtaking.

Its nature is really great but as people are exhausted of everything they just give up and go abroad...which is too sad
