When a war broke out in history, the government of each country would always send out their army to fight the battle for their own countries. However,a general would always be one of the key factor in winning a war (Of course there were politic, finance and other factors as well).Looked at all the great generals such as Napoleon,Alexander the Great,General Patton and much more, you would never forget their names in human history.Well, tell us about your favorite and the reason behind it.

I would have to go with Genghis Khan. Among all the conquerors he was the one who started the largest contiguous empire in the world.

Although I like Alexander, (I should since it's my name), I admire Hannibal the most. I've admired him since grade school; him and his elephants crossing the Alps. And later when I worked at the library and learned more about him such as the tribes he had to fight as he crossed the Alps, then my admiration went up. Surrounded by a huge Roman army, he waited until one general took over the Roman army, then escaped with trickery. I like Hannibal so much that I am nearly a scholar with books by Polybius and Livy on my shelf. I especially liked his strategy in massacring the huge Roman army at Cannae.

Alexander the Great. I'm still amazed on his strategy in defeating so many Persians, he is a fine horseman, brilliant strategist and genius ruler. No one else in the ancient world conquered as much as he does.
