What 2 CONDITIONS would U give to a prince or take frm a princess for marriage?   

Here's a legend that lives on among the locals of the province of Central Java, Indonesia. To be precise, this is the site of A Thousand Temples as they call it. And here too was where a love story began. A love-hate story between a royal prince and a princess who once inhabited this land.

Mesmerized by her beauty a marriage was proposed. But the offer was swiftly rejected until eventually the princess agreed but on two impossible conditions which the lovestruck prince agreed. The first was to build a well and the second was to build one thousand temples in only one night.

Soon after the well was built the princess ordered piles of stones into it thus burying the prince inside alive. But for his great love for her the prince forgave the princess on the attempt on his life soon after he escaped the ordeal.

As he continued to begin on the second condition the prince soon entered meditation. The spirits from the earth were conjured up with his supernatural powers. And together they finished constructing the first 999 temples when a light from the east glowed followed by the sound of the pounding of rice which was and still is a traditional dawn activity in some areas here. The spirits hurriedly returned into the earth, fooled into thinking the sun was about to rise, with the last of a thousand temples left unfinished.

The evil scheme of the princess and her ladies-in-waiting did not easily go unnoticed. As the furious prince learnt of this deception he placed a curse on her. She turned into a stone statue immediately and graced the final feature of the one thousandth temple and therefore completed its construction and fulfilled the conditions of their marriage.

Today, herein lies one of the famous archaeological sites of Indonesia. And on moonlit nights some say a thousand dancers would enact the graceful dance of the Javanese Ramayana Ballet to the soothing sounds of the traditional Gamelan (music), the sounds of moonlight, against the spectacular backdrop of The Thousand Temples.
