http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfoHCZDVbVk&feature=related Usually the ball is delivered for our final home match by the RAF. The reason for this is simple; they rescued a few people from the floods in 2005 here in Carlisle. Also, they rescue people from the Lake District quite a lot so we love them in these parts! The ball hasn't been delivered this way for a couple of years now but I have been in the crowd when it has. That helicopter is HUGE and everyone's hair flies up because of the rota-blades. No doubt they aren't allowed to deliver the ball now because of Health & Safety but at least I've witnessed it and believe me, it's as cool as it looks!

That is certainly different! It would have been awesome to see in real life! Speaking of Carlisle. I am reading Ozzy Osbourne's biography at the moment and read the other day the Black Sabbath's first ever gig together was at Carlisle! I thought of you as soon as I read it! They were not called Black Sabbath at that time though. They were called Earth at the time from memory. I thought you would appreciate knowing this seeing as you love the old hard rock bands!

I did not expect that either of you would have been at the gig! Ozzy's manic stage? Wasn't that most of his life? His book is hilarious, the things he did were just mad! I think that you should definitely read it.

Yes, it was awesome and something I won't forget in a hurry! To be honest, I've only been living in Carlisle for about 5 years. My husband was born here. I think he might've been a bit young to go to the gig as he was born in 1970. As for Ozzy, I love him to bits. It's great that, wherever he has roamed his ace Brummy accent remains intact. I did see him at Donington. Can't remember the year but I should imagine I remembered more about it than he did at the time...it was during his manic stage. Mum used to take off his walk...you know, when he lumbers up and down the stage clapping his hands. It's hiliarious. Makes me laugh every time she does it..and yes, she is eccentric!

never been that close to a helicopter, but I've watched them land and take off, they are AWESOME! Mind you, sports ain't my cuppa...

We chickened out of booking a helicopter to fly over the Grand Canyon. I love watching helicopters but to actually fly in one scares me somewhat. I will do it though, one day.

We have a local parade that used to be started by an Air Force Flyover, but that was discontinued because of the cost of fuel. With increased scrutiny on government waste, even the fun stuff has to be cut back. That sounds like a great tradition, and I would not be surprised that in addition to health and safety aspects of the flight, someone is keeping an eye on waste in country as well.

I used to look forward to the helicopter's arrival but you are right; the fact that it has stopped since the economic downturn speaks volumes doesn't it? They can find money for wars though.
