How do you prepare for a road trip?  

just take plenty of water and chewing gum and food. then just stop whereever looks interesting, where are you going?

I just got back from a road trip, but not one that was pleasant. We traveled over 300 miles to bury my father-in-law and how I prepared? I really didn't, if it wasn't for his family, we would have starved. It wasn't planned out well, and all I was told was to bring snacks for the trip in. But instead I should have packed for meals and when we got down there we had to go grocery shopping to add to what his family brought. Here is something else you should consider, even if you are going to a warm place, bring a sweat shirt and pants..I brought a few long sleeve shirts, but nothing thicker and the last 3 nights it got down to freezing..My toes are still cold from the trip back, you never know what the weather will do..

Hello, My family loves to take road trips, both day long and weekends. First thing to remember is to dress comfortably. For a day trip, I always suggest a small bag with a change of clothes (complete), a jacket, and even a change of shoes. A small ice chest with drinks and some snacks, as it's much cheaper than pulling into a small store that charges 2 and half times more, just because they can. A blanket/chair, most definitely want to bring a camera, and possibly and empty back pack in case you park and want to walk around you can through a few snacks in the bag with a camera and a jacket. Also kinda depends on where your heading and the time of year it is where you live on what your going to want to bring. I like bringing my fishing equipment, sand toys for the kids and maybe a frisbee or kite. More is always better, nothing worse than getting somewhere and saying oh we should of brought....., or having to purchase something when you have a perfectly good one at home. Spur of the moment road trips are our favorite. We all just jump in and through a bunch of stuff together climb into the car and head out. Those have always been the most fun. Have a great time and to always remember take lots of pictures.

We don't really go all that far when we do go somewhere, but we take water, something to snack on, and something to do whilst in the car. That's pretty much all we need, of course the luggage that we'll need once we stop somewhere to rest, but that's about it.

I make sure my car has plenty of petrol. Then I take warm clothing in case it gets cold later. I make sure I have some snacks and a bottle of water to drink. I take enough diapers and catheters for my disabled toddler son. My baby daughter also needs me to take her diapers along with me. I take drinks and food for my children to eat plus drink. If I am going on a long journey I take an map with me showing the roads that I will travel along. I take my sunglasses if the weather is hot. I go to beaches, historical sites and interesting towns.

i wanted to know this one too! i'm planning to take a road trip at some point with a few friends, though i don't know where to or why quite yet. next month though, i might be going to a theme park, so it will be a bit of a road trip finding my way there as i've never driven there before! but i think i'll take some food - nothing big obviously, just sandwiches and crisps (chips), fruit, chocolate, that kind of thing, and some water. maybe a flask of tea too. that way, even if we can't find the theme park we'll have had a nice day out and nice things to eat!
