How do you clean your coffee maker? |
| |
| When I bought this coffee maker the coffee was so fresh tasting and enjoyable. I have never cleaned it and it's been about a year. I'm not sure how to do this? Do I just rinse water through it? Or use bleach? Or something else? | | | | | |

| | A good way to clean it,is to run vinegar and water through the coffee maker.alot of people use this method, because vinegar makes a good natural cleaner. | | | | | | |

| | I use the vinegar method and actually need to do this today! I brew vinegar through a clean filter. Then I run through about 4 pots of plain water. This cleans it very nicely. Then I clean the filter basket and the coffee pot with mild sudsey water and a wash cloth. | | | | | | |

| | Do not ever run bleach through your coffee maker! Like Java said, use vinegar. If you consult the manual that came with your coffee maker, it will tell you how to clean it. Usually, it is recommended to mix a required amount of vinegar with water and run it through before the first use. Every several months do it again. Mineral deposits left by hard water can clog your coffee maker. Therefore cleaning every three months is recommended. If you do not have a manual for your coffee maker, search in Google for your brand name of coffee maker, followed by the words - manual. After you run the vinegar and water through your coffee maker, dump out what is in the craft and then run again with just straight water. This time, one can save the water to use to water your plants, rather than just simply dumping it down the drain. My manual says to take white vinegar and fill the reservoir to the six cup line and then just plain water until the reservoir is filled to the ten cup line (my coffee maker is a twelve cup coffee maker). It goes on to say to place a paper coffee filter into the basket and run the water/vinegar through only half way and then turn off. Let it sit for about 20 minutes to soften deposits. Then turn back on and run through the remaining fluid. Then turn off, empty the carafe and discard the soiled filter. You can also use a permanent filter and just rinse out well. Next, fill the reservoir with cold water to the 11-cup line, replace empty carafe, then turn on the maker to run through, flushing out the remaining cleaning solution. This step may have to be repeated to remove the vinegar smell/taste. Never use an abrasive cleaner or scouring pads on the carafe otherwise they can scratch and weaken the glass. Just use a soft cloth. | | | | | | |

| | Sadly, they dont tell you how to clean your coffee maker. I guess it would decrease their sales. Ive worked at a coffee shop for the past 6 years and also at home we clean our machines with water and vinegar mix. Once you run this mix through then put through a mix of just water. You may have to do this a couple times if you havent cleaned your machine in awhile. | | | | | | |
