| The only reason for cake, is for taking pictures, honestly, and if thats what you need for faraway relatives, do like me and go with a pretty cupcake instead. Its much smaller and easier for the child to handle, and in this economy, cheaper for them to tear up a cupcake, versus a whole cake, even a small one. The rest of us just had root beer floats, more fun for us. As far as dealing with load noisy toys, we asked if they were going to bring a toy, to make it one that didnt require batteries. This way, you control the nose volume from electronic toys, and you are still being polite about it. And if you are sending out invites, or dealing with relatives calling, wanting to know what to get as a gift, make each request different, based on the person and their cash availability. I have no problem telling my grandmother, on a fixed budget: "Honestly a box of crayons would be great, you have no idea how fast the little artist goes through them!" And then my cousin, who is rather earth friendly "You know, we are trying to get rid of some of the plastic cheap toys, been trying to find some wooden toys, so if that would sound fun to you..." Dont be afraid to ask straight out for what you need too. Clothes? Ask, just make sure you tell them sizes. Diapers, you know what...Ask! In this economy, people are more willing to spend and help out on a need, then a want. And just keep the party as simple as you want. But just realise, this is going to be more of an adult social gathering, then kids having fun. Cause after that sugar loaded cupcakes, that baby is going to crash! |
