Country life or town life which do you think is the best?

I spent over 50 years living in an industrial town. In the 60's pollution was very high from the chemicals that were made there, but there was a lot of countryside very close to be able to go and walk. As the years progressed the pollution in the town got much better, but unfortunately the country vanished little by little as more houses were built. So in my later years in the town it was completely urban, to go for walks meant a car drive to somewhere more suitable. For the last 5 years or so I have moved to a small rural village, the air is clean and there are lots and lots of walks. I don't miss town life at all, in fact when I return it really disturbs me, I do know that many people prefer living in the town to the country, Why do you think this is and which do you prefer?

I would go for a country life. I have experienced both and I say that country life is much better than town life. Everything there is just good and relaxing. I live in a province but I stay in the city during the weekdays because of studies. Every weekend, I am just so excited to go home.

I went from living in a busy town to living in a tiny village, with only a small shop couple of pubs and a bus service every 2 hours. I thought I would hate it at first, only living near old people, leaving all my friends and having nowhere to go to socialise. But after a couple of weeks, I was in love with the country, it was so quiet, and even though it was out of the way, I was only 10-15 minutes away from the city! I vry quickly made lots of friends in college and my social life was better in the country side than in the town I had lived in! Sadly after living there for 4 years I found myself moving back to the old town (or very close by at least!), and I miss living in the country an awful lot, mainly because I am so far away from my family, but it's not only that, it's the peace everything about it!!! We'll have to see what happens over the next few years and see if we can get back to the countryside!!!!!

I think I could do both as long as I have a laptop with me. But the most important thing is that you'll leave in a safe environment. You don't want to find cars slammed into your living room when you wake up or have your house bombarded. People can adapt whatever place they're living in, if given some time. It's human nature. But a place your comfortable at should be the next factor, whether you'll hear birds chirping outside or honking of bustling vehicles.

Ah! This gives me an opportunity to vent some of my frustrations in relation to town verses country living! I was born in London and I have become so used to living in the City that I hardly know anything different. However, from 2002 I moved somewhere different and now I live fairly close to the countryside. I have one row of houses behind me and then it's nothing but pure forest and green fields, very nice! I just wish I had the funds to move far out into the countryside but I am pretty chuffed with what I do have right now. The countryside is fantastic for purity of air. I don't like the pollution of the big cities and being a regular cyclist I always get a mouthful of the exhaust fumes whilst waiting for the traffic lights to change! I love nature and I love wild life! I have dreams of living far out in the countryside and listening to the birds sing, the swans tending to their young and so forth, what a beautiful picture! This is all it is for me though sadly! If I ever have that chance of escaping from the city then I will gladly take it. Andrew

I do hope that you can, I really love the life. Where I live I have a river at my front gate and a canal at my back gate, there are masses of swans, ducks, herons etc both front and rear. I look out to the left over the Lake District Hills and to the right over The Forest of Bowland and Yorkshire Dales. It really is idylic!!

Well, country life is much more healthy, of course. I rather prefer to live in a country because it's also more beautiful, I love the nature. But nowadays, people are not used to live from a garden and heaving animals to give them natural products like milk, eggs... town life is more comfortable for most people and easier to handle.

I find it the opposite, I can't wait to get back to the country when I visit the town

I'm a city girl.. born in a city and has lived in city for the past 20+ of my life. I have never lived in the country side before and I wish to try out country side life. I think I will like it since I hate crowds and noise a lot.

town life is only good while still young coz theres too much things to do like a lot of shopping store and even work is in town so we prefer to live in town, on the other hand, country life is good for those whose old already or those who only wanted simple life, i also want to live in country life if i got old coz theres not much traffic there, not that crowded and air is fresh, just a simple life.

I lived in a small town for the first 10 years of our marriage. Now we live in the country. We only have 4 acres, but that gave my son plenty of room to play, but now we are older and it is a lot of mowing for my husband. He keeps it looking pretty good. He enjoys cars and such so we have a garage and what other items he finds interesting. I enjoy my garden and flowers.

Hard to say. On one hand, you've got the serenity and peace in the country side, but on the other hand, you get everything apart from peace in the city. All the facilities, hospitals, schools, emergency services, etc. I love the English countryside though. My in-laws have a nice place not too far from town, but could be classified as countryside. Love that place. My ideal place. That is not too far from city, but peaceful.

I would prefer country life, I lived both. But I have preferred country life, because there's peace there at country, but sometimes my mind goes to town then I have to go there for a while. Because coming from the town, you can't adjust yourself in country then. Sometimes mind goes there at town. It is Okay to take yourself there, but after a while your mind would say "Get back to country". Country life is the best.
