| hi! It's my understanding that "Jesus is our sabbath" rest.. (in the book of Hebrews, ch4?) Something about "entering His rest" and not to refuse to enter HiS rest/HiS salvation, where we cease our own efforts to "be good" seeing as good does not originate in us, but there is only one source of goodness, God. And Jesus on the cross is our open door to God and acceptance to God, thus we are free to draw close to Him, and this is the only real, source of self improvement, etc. His goodness, so to speak, rubs off onto us! (One source of goodness, and it ain't us!) Thus we are changed (born again) and as we keep in close relationship to God, we continue to be transformed til one day at the resurrection we will awaken and be like Jesus! As I understand it the sabbath was "for man" - a day of rest rather than having to labor every day.. and was part of "the law" which is "a tutor" (babysitter!) for us "until Christ" the stronger, effective means of living righteously, i.e. once God is born big in us, we no longer need to remind our selves to not murder, cheat, rob, etc, because we will be full of God who is LOVE, and "love does no harm, works no evil".. - Personally, for strength in my spiritual life I 'keep sabbath' usually first thing in the day (a time of quietness, reading the bible, prayer and contemplation) and also little moments throughout the days, which I do for me, rather than as a means to please God, seeing as my acceptance from God is through the price Jesus paid on the cross as an executed criminal (he took my place! and now I am delivered from death the result of imperfection, and am debt free, and have one rule, one law, to love God, for loving God fills me with Him, who IS love, and thus shall I do the 2nd part of that law, which is to love my fellow person.. and love does no harm.. and now we are set free to spend our life loving him and praying for everyone we know.. how blest.. |
