So due to my constant illness my doctor has recommended a "lifestyle change" as he puts it. He wants me to live a healthier and stress free life. Give up my stressful job. Change my living situation. Eat healthier and start exercising more. He says the more I stress, the more chances I'm giving the sickness to take over.

I've been looking into aromatherapy, meditation cds, calming herbal teas, and so on. My question to you is what is your favorite way to relieve stress? I could really use the ideas guys. Thanks so much :)

oh I know exactly how you feel. I was working for the phone company and they do exactly the same (Windstream Communication), give you 7 sick days and if you take them, on the 8 absence you get automatically fired. If you are late, every tardy gives you a point towards that door. Talk about stress yeap, believe me I know about that. I tolerated for 4.5 years until last march. Well I was doing find and no where close to being fired, but got burned out, so chose to leave it. Yea now I am looking for a new job LOL, but I have had a chance to relax for almost 3 months. I saw you are a part time photographer? I say that awe to do real good for you, why not be a full time photographer? before you make your move, just save enough money for the first 6 months, buy some equipments, and then go for unemployement benefits. Those will last you 6 months right there, work hard at your own thing, as a photographer. Get you jobs lined up.

Yep my work is like that. I think I'm one point away from getting fired right now. Maybe half a point away. I don't remember. Whoops, lol.

I'd love to do photography full time but it's a hard career to get into. There's a lot of photographers out there. And I've noticed that lately (maybe it's from working too hard or something) I just don't have the energy to take pictures. I want to take a vacation from work and try the photography thing again tho. I used to make semi decent money off of it. It sure beats answering to my boss!

If I get fired for being sick, I'm going to try for unemployment and take the time to get my life in order. I'll look for a new job and work on my artwork. I see it as a new beginning and a chance at finding some peace.

You know since I have never experienced this in other jobs, over the last 6 years much has changed. This company sure surprised me with this practice and now you are relieving my anxiety of thought on this being the only company getting away with that. Well I recommend you save as much money as you can for any emergency, and considering you did make some good money on your hobby then trust your skill and go for it.

Hi Kedra dear..

I am so sorry to hear you are so rundown and stressed and ill..I have a deep compassion for you in that as I have been as well, some days are good however.

It just seems that I can't seem to get interested in exercise even walking..I too wish you were here to motivate you and me girlfriend.

Guess what I did today though?

I just got up after I was done on myLot this morning and it was about noon and I said to myself, I am going to see if the car starts and go to the thrift store down the road a bit. Well it started and my counsellor has been at me to do something to get out at least for a while..so I volunteered at the thrift store and they said that was great.

So I only have to go in when I am up to it, but it gives me something to look forward to and perhaps get me going on the right track again.

I can tell this is really getting you down dear and I want you to get better too!
Why not do something like that even, maybe not right now, but when you feel a bit better..it took me forever to get to this point even, and still not all that good honey.

I had three nervous breakdowns due to circumstances so it is not easy to bounce back..I understand. It can take a terrible toll physically right?

I have learned too that certain parts of the body are 'sick' because of some sort of stress that you are suffering..I truly wish you health dear.

Aw hun I'm sorry you've been feeling run down and stressed too. That's not good. Yes it would be nice to have you closer so we could motivate each other. I need someone to get me off my butt!

I'm glad you went out and did something! That's good and a step in the right direction :)

I've been so ill that I've been spending most of my days in bed. I hate it, I feel like I'm wasting time. But I'm so tired and my pills make me dizzy and sleepy. I do miss the fresh air tho. I opened my window today so I could hear the sounds outside and smell the breeze.

It's true the stress lowers my immunity and makes me get sick with all kinds of nasty things. I'm so tired of trying new medications and getting weird side effects, lol.

All this being sick has made me rather depressed too. I feel like I just keep getting kicked down. But guess what! My love offered to take me on a roadtrip/vacation for my birthday if I get better by then. My birthday is at the end of the month so it's good motivation to take my pills, rest lots, eat well, and work on feeling better physically and emotionally. Maybe having something to look forward to will help me heal.

See the meds..I hate them. I am really considering just getting off them, but you know,,,I know that I need something, maybe I could try diet and natural meds instead.

Oh yes he's very good to me. I'm so blessed!

Heh maybe we will head out there! We actually have no idea where we want to go at this point. I told him let's just drive and see where it takes us. No planning, no worrying, just enjoy.

I'd love to stop taking my meds, but I was really really bad without them. I used to just think I was crazy. I had been put in a psych ward for mental problems before the meds. They've helped with the bipolar crazy mood swings. I used to cut myself and tried to kill myself and would get really angry and kinda violent. I scared myself and my loved ones. So I don't think stopping my pills is an option. I just have to learn to accept that it's a part of my life and learn to love my body as is.

Watch movies which are really hilarious, laugh out loud or find books that will make you laugh. These are methods I use in order to relieve me of stress and pressure. They really work.

Hello lynn,

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you can cope up with that stress you're under going.

I used to joined yoga classes to relieve my stress,there are lots of lesson that can help you relax your mind.You may try them too..I even doing some SPA sometimes to get rid of my stress.
You may want to speak to a friend about what's bothering you, go out with friends and talk about something, chat,and discuss your worries and burdens.

I do pranayama, meditation to beat stress. I listen to soothing music, watch humor TV programs. You can also eat chocolates to reduce your stress.

I dunno if this fits your wants: my stress reliever is eating cakes, eating whatever I want, or seeing a movie. I have proven any of these three very effective to me as my stress reliever.

I'm trying to diet so eating whatever I want probably isn't the best idea. But maybe I'll sneak in a candy bar once in a while. Chocolate makes me happy :)

Hi,

I've been very sickly too and my doctor also told me that it could be stress related reaction. To addressed it here's what i did. I don't of work after i signed out at the ofice. I go out with friends that doesn't discuss work, go out for a picnic with your family and maybe have some pet fish at home, it really relaxes me. Also don't forget proper diet, green veggies will help a lot.

It is very hard for me not to think about work after I go home and I know that's not helping the stress. I'm sorry you're sick too. My doctor says stress lowers your immunity and makes it easier to get sick... Maybe I'll try a picnic. My friends actually are a lot of drama sometimes so they don't always help. Maybe I need new friends, lol. I have 2 dogs and a cat and they help cheer me up and calm me down :)

I have a different way to relieve my self with stress and I don't think that your Doctor will agree with it. haha! When I'm really stresed out and I'm in the office I have to drink a cup of coffee from my favorite coffee shop with my very close friends. I feel so relaxed with the aroma and taste of the coffee and nice conversation with my friends.

My other way of relieving my self with stress is an out of town with family and close friends usually in a very nice beach resort. When I feel so exhausted it means it's time for me to take a long leave from work. I ask my boss for at least 1 week Vacation Leave.

I think I need to focus more on relaxing and enjoy the little things like a nice cop of coffee. Usually I'm drinking it in a hurry and not even really tasting it :(

Maybe you should try going to the spa and getting a massage. You can try this every time you're stressed. Breathing techniques also helps. Try deep breathing. Exercising can also help boost your immune system and it aids in the release of hormones that can make you feel happier and relaxed. If you love shopping and you have the money to do it, then it's one great way to unwind. Or maybe have a coffee with friends.

You should also eat healthy foods. Try to eat more fruits and vegetables. It will also help your skin look younger and healthier.

Yes my dr said to try a healthier diet and meditating. I think I'll try breathing exercises too. I just need to calm down. I love massages but can't really afford them. Maybe I'll make my boyfriend give me a massage :) I want to start making my own all fruit smoothies. Those might be nice. Thank you.

I actually have a lot of ways just to relieve my stress. I am actually very prone to stress since I easily get depress with just simple things that is happening in my life and even though I don't want that, I can't really control myself from making me depress even more being preoccupied with that stressor.

Anyway, my ways are just going to the mall, just doing some window shopping or I could sing in the Karaoke and sing my heart out in there. I can also just rest and sleep here in my home or just read some pocketbooks. Or I could just be here in mylot and just do some comments in here and I am happy that my thoughts would not be affected if I am not in the right mood...

As for medications, I don't take that...I just drink some Vitamins with me, have some rest and I am OK...happycool

Our family is actually one of the best stress reliever if we are really close to them. We can definitely have a bond with them and just have a good time. I am not actually that close with my family but I do enjoy their company so much and I just love to share some jokes with them.

We should not let stress get us. We should avoid having wrinkles and all that...w00tlol

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm diagnosed bipolar, was misdiagnosed with depression before that and I have anxiety issues. Stress has always been a big part of my life. Sadly I needed a few pills to help balance that and they've worked well but they don't cure all and they've made me put on a few pounds. Yucky. I tend to obsess a lot about the things that stress me out, making things worse and leading to other sickness.

I am trying a healthier diet which I notice does make me feel overall better but man I miss cheeseburgers!

My family is good for stress. Well my mom is. She's very loving and calm. And she cooks for me when I'm sick even tho I'm almost 27! My sister is actually very uptight and she yells all the time. That doesn't help... So I don't always visit my mom because of the yelling sister...

I think I'll start taking vitamins too. Every little bit helps right? Thanks!
