| Tips or advice for sculpting a cake? | | | | I'm making my husband a cake for his college graduation. I want to sculpt/carve it into a particular shape, and I was hoping that some more experienced bakers here might be able to give me some pointers. The cake will have three layers, and the shape I want to carve is not complicated. What kind of utensils should I use? Do you have any good tips to help the cake hold its shape and keep it from crumbling when I carve into it? How about tips for making it easier to ice once I'm done carving (I do not have the time, skill, or energy to make fondant and the storebought stuff is icky)? Any advice will be helpful! | | | | | | | | | | Love Cake Decorating? Decorate a Cake Perfectly Every Time! Free Cake Decorating Videos. www.CakeDecorating.com

| | Why are you trying to be a "wanna-be" English speaker? If all you have is a rude remark, don't bother replying. If you must reply with rude remarks, you should at least invest in some proper grammar. Otherwise, people won't take your remarks seriously and you will end up being the one who is laughed at. I'm laughing right now, and so is my husband who just graduated with his degree in English. | | | | | | | Love Cake Decorating? Decorate a Cake Perfectly Every Time! | | First of all, that's sweet to make a cake, than buying one. Secon, what shape are you planning to make? Cause if it's a three layer cake, you should cut it according to the shape that you are planning. For icing it, you should have your flat spatula and a piping bag of course. A rotating cake stand would also be handy. The icing really depends on your cake. try checking out websites like, http://allrecipes.com they have a great collection of icings, check out the comments section to see what people think of the recipe. hope it helps. | | | | | | | thyst07 (1295)

| | A rotating cake stand would be a marvelous thing to have, but sadly I do not own one and can't really afford to buy one. I'll definitely try the icing with a spatula, and I do have a set of piping tips somewhere in the deep recesses of my cabinets. As for the shape, the cake will be a model of a hat worn by a favorite anime character (You can see it here http://www.sunsean.com/iG...) | | | | | | | Wedding Cakes Find available local wedding professionals for your wedding day!
