Do you have an automatic or manual car? Most Americans have automatics but in Europe we still have manual cars. If you have automatic do you still know how to drive manual or you never did? What do you is better? To have an automatic car or manual? It's true that you can get more speed with manual gearshift but you have to change the gears all the time. On the other side there's auto that is easier to drive but uses more fuel and acceleration is slower. I have a manual car and i like it that way.

I have an automatic car, but my preferences change depending on the situation. If I'm going to be doing alot of driving through traffic where there is a set speed limit, and its pretty slow then I'll go with an automatic. You don't need to think. You put it in drive and go. But if i'm driving somewhere that's more open, and I can use speed then definitely go with the manual. With the manual you don't have to wait for the engine to slowly putter through, you can hit the gas, and switch gears. You can get up to a higher speed much faster than an automatic can, because you are in control of the car.

Oh yes what i hate is that slow moving traffic when you crawl with 20km/h and brake and accelerate and brake again. I wish i had the option to change to automatic. Which car do you have? And i agree about the open space...i'd probably fall asleep if i had an automatic because you have nothing to do. Thanks for your comment, couldn't agree more with you

Yep. If only they made an affordable car that could switch from manual to automatic when you needed it. Thanks for posting your topic, and keeping me from getting bored.

I have a manual car. It is the car I first started learning to drive in and I am yet to drive an automatic car.
I imagine that driving an automatic car would be really boring. I have a lot of fun changing gears and it keeps me interested while I drive.
It's one extra thing to divide your attention to but in the end you can perform gear shifts sub consciously while barely even thinking about it. I used to stall the engine when I was first learning in it but now I barely ever do.
When you are learning to drive like I did it might be better to start off in an automatic car as it is slightly easier to learn but I am glad I learned how to drive in a manual first.

I am also yet to drive an automatic. I guess it's boring without shifting but would come in handy when you're in slow traffic. Yes it is almost sub conscious act to change gears. But i have made the mistake of changing from 5th to 4th twice. I don't have rev meter so i listen to the engine. I was going about 160km/h and i heard the machine and i was busy talking to passenger and wanted to change to next gear
. Next car i buy must have 6 gears so i don't make same mistake. Thank you for your response, have fun shifting.

Hello slovenc, we do have an automatic and manual car. Actually if you have a manual car you can still drive an automatic car but if you started driving with automatic car then shifting to manual will be difficult. I still prefer the manual car, even we have to change gears all time. Automatic car has an advantage though especially during heavy traffic.
Happy mylotting.

Lucky you you can choose the one that suits you most
. Thanks for letting me know that you'd choose manual that tells me a lot. I do realize how automatic can be great for heavy traffic because sometimes i get so tired of changing gears for every 3 meters. Thank you for your reply(=
