old movies are deffinately better than most the ones put out today

Welcome to the Lot Brownrecliner. Films like Avatar have the effects and the story but I hear what you are saying. I do like animated films as my son also enjoys watching them with me but a film for me I like action thriller type. Ellie:)

Most movies nowadays cater to the most popular themes, so that they will have the widest appeal and therefore the most number of people will either go to see the movie or later rent the DVD. This is the way of the world. If you like good literature, then go to the library and borrow Charles Dickens, H.G. Wells, Jules Verne and other authors. I myself read the Encyclopedia Brittanica an article a day, just to keep my intellect exercised.

I completely agree. Most films nowadays are more into special effects and how they can make movies extra special by making such effects as realistic as possible. Honestly, I got bored with Ironman 2 and almost fell asleep 'cause its story was so shallow and predictable. I haven't even watched Avatar since its story almost resembles that of Pocahontas situated in a futuristic plot as a friend of mine told me. I love movies with twists, lots of substance and incredibly fascinating story lines. Unfortunately, movies with lots of special effects tend to appeal to most viewers nowadays and those with beautifully crafted scripts are getting ignored.
