Where I live, the matinee is $8, regular prices are $11.75 and that just at a stand-alone theater close to home. A small bottle of Aquafina is $4 and I eat somewhere else.
The one in the closest mall (The Bridge near LAX) sells adult tickets anywhere from $11.75 to $15.25.
Thing is, my grandmother goes to a beauty shop where they sell bootlegs. It's not right but at $5 a pop, many (including this 80 y.o. woman) can't resist. I wash my own hair (smile).
The industry claims that "stealing" movies and movies is the cause for such extravagant prices but anytime I hear that, I think about that episode of South Park where Britney Spears and others had to downgrade things like a private airplane.

it is deffinately way to expensive to go to the movies, maybe if they were boycotted for a while, the prices would drop, in my theatre here it is like 3.50$ for a drink and that is not a large!

It is REALLY expensive, I agree. Here in the UK, a standard cinema ticket is £7.50 but some deluxe seats are £12.50 each! Plus the food and drink are very expensive too, so it adds up to an expensive night out. We have 4 kids so when all 6 of us want to see the Harry Potter films, it costs around £100 in total. It's no wonder people are now more likely to wait to buy the film on DVD for £12 or so!!
