My Rabbit Eats her Babies |
| |
| I am not sure why but i have seen my rabbit eat her babies before! Why they are so cruel? Am I not giving them enough protein that they have to obtain protein from the own flesh? Anyone encounter this before? | | | | | |

| | That's sad that yours are all dead. mine still left 1-2 alive only.... You know rabbit eat their own placenta after they give birth? Maybe they thought their babies are placenta so they ate them. But you said yours, they bit them... so weird.. | | | |

| | Wow, what a bad mommy! We've had birds do that..some lovebirds can be very carnivorous. I would say that in the future-somehow-you're going to have to handfeed those poor things! | | | | | | |

| | I have heard of this happening and I have actually experienced it! My dad use to have a Golden Retriever and she had puppies. A couple of them died so the mother ate the dead puppies. It is because the mother didn't want anyone taking her babies away from her. It is for protection. It is just normal for a dog to do this. It scared me at the time! I was only little. I went down to check on the Mother and the Babies, and the mother started growling at me. I looked closer and it was because a couple of the puppies had died while birth. So, don't be alarmed at this rabbit's actions. It is normal but sad for animals to do this. | | | | | | |

| | I have heard of this before, and I've heard a variety of reasons why. But I have no idea which reason holds more truth than others. The most common one I hear is that the mother realizes there's something wrong with the baby/babies. I guess that's possible, and perhaps the mother is afraid the "sick" ones will infect the others or herself? I'm not sure. Did she eat all of them, or just a few? I've never actually seen that happen before, but I imagine it's pretty disturbing to see! Ew. :( | | | | | | |
